Bit of advice really. Young horse who is fully clipped (with saddle patch) out is always itching and scratching. he really goes at himself with his teeth. He did this over his thoraco/lumbar region and caused a bit welt to come up.

So I put some Aloe Vera gel on overnight and it promptly turned into a scab/now a bald patch. So super sensitive to anything. You would of thought put sulphuric acid on him :(

Problem we have is saddle isn't anywhere near it, but numnah/saddle cloth seems to just be sitting on it. I have tried to use smaller saddle cloths/numnahs but still catching the very edge of his baldy bit.

Very expressive moving just backed 4 year old so causing bit of friction. Saddle doesn't appear to be moving but will try breastplate tonight just to doubly make sure. Don't really want to ride without anything under the saddle. But may have to. Perhaps 1/2 pad.

Thanks for any advice

I'm currently dealing with a similar issue on my super sensitive skinned massive moving 6ry old. she has developed a rub just on her lumbar region at the very back on the saddle. Saddle checked slightly adjusted but fine, physio checked and although a bit of tightness nothing to report. She goes slightly quarters in on the right canter and it is decided by the saddle fitter/physio that that is causing slightly more pressure from the saddle in the area of the rub. It is such a bad time of year with coats changing for sensitive horses getting rubs and the problem is once the rub/scab is there even the slightest friction will just inflame the skin again. I have been recommended to not put a saddle on until the actual skin is healed and no longer inflamed and then I have to address the quarters in with schooling and physio. I would suggest you do not aggravate the skin by continuing to use a saddle/numnah and lunge untill healed, I would wash him with a anti fugal/bacterial shampoo like the Equigaiter one and see how you go.
