Took my youngster out for her first ever day with hounds yesterday with UK's most northerly hunt, the Kincardineshire. And she surpassed herself in behaving well. Although she was amazed and astonished by the sight of hounds, she confined herself to snorting at them. And even gave up her usual fidgetting and agitation at having to stand still at some extremely lengthy covers as she watched and learned from the other horses. I tried to educate her by keeping her in the middle on long runs, so she doesn't think its about racing to the front. Think she was getting the hang of it by the end. And I didn't realise she was so fit, but she was the only one still jogging at the end of the day, wanting to do more, she just loved going about all day with all the other horses. Got her home and she was completely dry with not a bump or scratch and ate up well, bucking and squealing this morning when turned out.
The hunt was remarkably effective too, and all perfectly legal as shotguns were used to dispatch. Thats what was campaigned for and thats what happened, so no-one can complain. Definately going to take her again, possibly with the Fife, though hard to fit in with so much showjumping.
