My 13 year old gelding was in a field with a 6 year old irish draft x gelding over the summer, the 6 year old has very little respect for anything- including other horses- and made it a habit to run into my gelding and climbing on top of him. A few weeks ago we separated them as the 6 year old was preventing my horse from drinking or even standing in the same place for too long, and after having his back checked recently it turns out he has caused quite a lot of damage to my horses back (just before hunting season!) I was just wondering if any of you have had the same sort of problem? And whether or not there is any way of teaching a young horse to respect his elders lol! Thanks

I have yes- Eventually ive split them up. Its a pain because I like having fields to rest as my land is not good at all! I can still rest paddocks but its really not ideal.
I have a TB who just keeps my horse walking all the time, he was never allowed to stand still and just rest. He had to wait for the left overs of feed or hay etc and was chased from the water.
I will keep them separate now but I think if a higher ranking horse was put with the youngsters it will teach manners!
