I should probably put it in Careers in a minute too, not sure who might want to read it

Just a few words to say that after being accepted onto a South East Qualifier for the BHS Young Instructor of The Year 2008 I went to take part in it on Thursday last week and had a really interesting day!

There are 8 instructors chosen for each qualifier; at the SE one there were people of varying experiences from those running own yards to freshly qualified BHSAIs. Our first task was to give each other lunge lessons geared at identifying any problems in position/balance we may have. We were then assessed by the FBHS and other candidates, given feedback, positive comments and plenty of constructive criticism for everyone

We then spent rest of the day teaching and assessing our coaching skills.
Personally, I got a big confidence boost out of this day, lots of positive feedback and realised my teaching actually isn't that bad

I am a very inquisitive person when it comes to coaching and training and the qualifier was a great opportunity for observation and assessing other instructors' teaching styles.
We have to wait for results as they are sent by post but I very much doubt I will go to the final. There is only 1 person per qualifier who gets nominated but either way I would thoroughly recommend doing the qualifier itself.

If anyone is considering taking part, I would say go for it

Hey, that's fantastic! Congratulations on getting that far and good luck with the finals! I also find that watching other people teach is one of the best ways to learn and copy good ideas.
