I have a 5yo Fell pony who I backed last autumn (he's an August foal so not long actually 5). Being the age he is he is obviously growing and changing shape rapidly. I use a treeless Freeform saddle on him as it can be easily altered to accomodate changes. His withers and shoulders have now become more defined and the saddle is sliding forwards. Have just rebalanced the saddle but I suspect that girth straps are now a tad behind the girth groove and there will be increased pressure on the back strap.
The girth straps on a freeform are not easily altered without changing the whole balance of the saddle so wondered if a curved short girth would be worth a try. If so, which one, bearing in mind this is a young horse and he's likely to change again. Up to now he's had a waffle girth that hasn't caused any problems but haven't tried other materials
It may be that we have to change saddle completely I know (as does Mr C who is quietly crying into his coffee
