I am hoping in a couple of weeks to take Believe to our first party together, as there is a show in a nearby village to us, and would appreciate some help from you lovely people.

(don't worry, I don't mean you all have to come and groom for me for the day

I have been looking at the schedule and the most suited classes for her seem to be the "young performance horse" class - ridden class for 4,5 and 6 year olds, for which the schedule says:

"Open to horses and ponies, 4, 5 and 6 year olds only. Rider any age. No lead reins. Competitors must jump a small course of jumps and perform a short individual display showing trot and canter on both reins and finish with 5 second halt with loose reins."

And also the Riding Club horse - rider any age. Will be required to jump 1 or 2 small jumps.

Ok, sounds fine for us

But I am wondering about tack? (help me out here, I don't do showing stuff normally

)

I am hopping this week to get her new saddle, which means I can then buy her a new bridle.
So havana tack yes?
Running martingale allowed?
She's in a snaffle so I'm gussing no probs there?
Flash noseband ok?

In the YPH class am I allowed to jump her in boots? (I don't want to jump her without at least over reach ones) And would I then be expected/able to stop and take them off?

Also in the YPH class, can I/should I carry a crop for the jumping? And then lose it for the display?

Navy numnah ok? Or should I have a brown one to match the tack?

What about me, can I ride in a navy jacket?

Will it be ok to just plait her mane? I find manes literally painfully hard work to do as it is

my arthritic fingers certainly can't do a tail

Ummm, what else.... oh yes

the one time I did showing before (though that was on a 14.2) they asked me as part of my display to get off and re-mount. Is it likely in either of these classes that I would be asked to do that on a 16hher?? Only if so then the whole plan is a non-starter as I CANNOT mount her from the ground in my long boots

Ok, sorry for all the questions, this is quite different from what I've done before, but I thought it would be fun for us

Thank you in advance guys. H. x

snaffle will be fine, and a flash noseband is ok.

I think boots are only allowed in WH classes but not an expert in showing by any means.

I would carry the crop for all of it if you would normally ride with one.

Brown would be better.

Have got bored with the quotes now so, blue jacket will be fine if it's a low level show, tail should be pulled if not plaited, I've never been asked to get on/off in a RC horse class, never done a YPH class though.

Good luck - sounds like it will be a fun day out for you both

Thank you Fairhill.

Anyone else??

Especially confirming what's allowed with regard to martingales/boots?

Or if anyone has done YPH classes and can give me a better idea of what to expect?

Havanna tack with a brown nummnah that you can barely see under the saddle or no nummnah at all.

Snaffles are fine, plaited mane and forelock, pulled or plaited tail.

Boots and martingales are fine for jumping you will prob jump your course and wait till everyoine has jumped untill you do your show / conformation, so then you can take your boots off and give her a spruce up

Quarter markers always look smart,

navy jacket with navy hat with flesh harness. or tweed jacket. shirt and tie but if you do chose a stock make sure its white for a navy jacket

Oh brilliant, thank you

I really didn't want to jump her over a course (even a small one) without over reach boots, as she is that way inclined...

I pressume I take the martingale off after jumping too?

Navy jacket and hat silk are no probs. I was going to wear a shirt with a navy tie I think.

Is there any point doing quarter markers on a dapple grey?

Any tips for the individual show?

Oh, and am I allowed to use my voice at all, like when I ask her to stand up for the 5 secs do da?

I really have no idea about this showing malarky! Bet my young horse I'm taking knows more about these types of classes than me
