I have a 2 years 6months old palomino welsh section c colt , I got him very underweight and mistreated and full of worms.
I have had him a year now and he literally lives of thin air what can i do to keep his weight down?

He hasnt got a cress or a fat lumps etc.. Its just his belly (Very pot bellied) and fat.He is on a baled field all day and night only getting a section of hay at night and he goes in a paddock with a grass for an hour a day.

What work at that age is good for them dont want to lunge etc as too much on joints but dont want him getting lami or no growing properly due to too much weight on his joints/

Any advice is great..
Thanks

Pot belly usually indicates a lack of protein. Think starving children in Africa and if he is still young and growing he will need good protein in this diet.

Ditto what others have said about worming and sufficient nutrients in diet.
But trying him on a track system would also be worth looking into, will improve his overall fitness without actually exercising him but will also limit his grass intake.

Are you sure that the pot belly that you describe isn't just a build up of fermentation from the grass and his stomach is just full of gas from the grass?

This often looks like the horse is 'fat' but if you were to work the horse you would find it would soon lose its belly as the gas would be expelled through the errr...... rear end :)
