Although I didnt take him, my lovely cob who is now seven started his hunting career as a just 4 year old and apart from a bit strong was perfectly behaved and has been ever since. I guess you must just be careful as to the meets and the hours spent out
dudley is a 4yr old dartmore who i broke in may this year he has been 7 times this season and is already hunted on the leadrein by his 5yr old jockey led off my pony lucy keeping up with the field. The first time he jumped was a small log out hunting!
If my potential horse passes vet today he'll be hunted all season. He is 5. I will obviously not hunt him mega hard but he will be expected to go out 3 times a fortnight for at least half a day each time.
rising 3 regularly hunt here in ireland most of the horses in the yard i help out in hunted at that age.....im not a good enough rider to bring a youngster hunting tho!oldest out was 25 tho!super pony!
I took my old horse out from when she was 3yo. I only took her out a couple of times that season and for a few hours tops, as I didn't want to do too much with her at a young age. I am going to take my new 3 yo out hopefully a bit later on this season once I have ironed out a few problems.
I have hunted a couple of 3yos (rising 4) but mostly 4yos. Most of those I hunt are recently backed though. Hope to get a 4yo in Spring and hunt next Autumn.
I took my lovely sensible 3yr old warm blood out (17 hands) Just for a quiet day of cubbing which was close to home. It blew his mind!! I was glad to get home alive!!! Will leave it 12 months I think!! Will let you know what happens as a 4 year old!! I think he was far too young and needs to experience a lot more round home
