I have a youngster 2 in June she is standing at 15.3hh at the moment, she is very good well handled comes in at night with other horses so use to routine.

Now my problem is leading her in from field she can be a little playful shall we say :) and when she is like this i feel i have no control over her she goes sideways spins around and does little mini rears ! so any advice how to lead her when shes in this mood.

I also have a big rising 2 year old who earlier this year got quite naughty, he's well handled but was pushing the boundaries a bit, I took the decision to use a pressure halter as I didn't want it to become an issue. I bought a second hand 'be nice halter' and I haven't looked back, it's my safety net if needed, but mostly now it's not needed!!! Good luck, when they are that big, if it's not sorted out it can easily become a major issue, try to nip it in the bud. Lots of leading practise, take her in the school and walk over poles, get her to back up etc, also use a long lead rein so that you are out of harms way if she does have an episode, you don't want to be within leg strike distance! I've also started the occassional short lunge work to give him something else to think about in life! And so far fingers crossed all is well!

Mine is now rising three and fairly little but I am very intolerant of "not walking nicely" so I also have a second hand be nice halter that he or his much older chum get for a few days if they are a bit pushy. I think they know they have pushed the boundaries as soon as they see it now. Then its back to a normal headcollar. For me it just means I dont have to loose control or do anything severe.

I second the use of a be nice pressure halter my 4 yr old was the same at 2 just pushing the boundaries and this halter is honestly the best thing since sliced bread! I find it fantastic for loading etc as well!!

i spent ages walking my 3 year old out in hand and making him stand, go backwards sideways etc and also woudl say for the pressure headcollar and the long rope (my wee man likes to strike out on occasion)

I am small in height with a very big and highly strung youngster, and I use a Stephen's Controller headcollar (or a Mikmar halter). A godsend. Keeps you and the horse safe at all times.
