My youngster, rising 3 yo, is just a bit "off" at the moment. Nothing very specific, just a bit more withdrawn/antisocial than normal and is a bit lethargic. Last week (26th Jan) he had some very mild colic symptoms which resolved without intervention. His temp is normal to a bit low (has ranged from 37.7 to 37.1 since Tuesday).
His routine has been stable for months. Out in a hard standing pen with ad lib hay between 8 and 5 (though his pen buddies might change - Blitz is very passive and can be put in with anyone and still be bottom of the heap), in overnight on a straw bed with a generous pile of hay on the floor. Automatic waterers. Fed a standard measure of Baileys Lo Cal morning and evening. I feed a top up on soaked grass nuts, small mug of micronised linseed, Pro hoof with added brewers yeast and magnesium on an evening.
The only real change is that 2 weeks ago a new horse came onto the yard, and he is often penned with Blitz and they play quite hard (new horse is only just 5 and very babyish).
The weather is bizzare, very mild for Jan with temps about 5C and over night temps of about -2C (normally this time of year we are -5C or below during the day and often down to -15 overnight).
As stated, there is nothing overtly wrong, but he isn't right either. Of course he is being monitored closely, and if he hasn't picked up by the weekend, I'll get the vet out on Monday, perhaps to do a blood test. I was just wondering if there was anything I could do management wise, change food etc (doing something would make me(!) feel better
