Hi Everyone!

Been looking to get a second horse as my current mare is entering her older years. The mare still has a good few years left in her though, so I am considering a youngster to mature and bring on over this time, ready to be brought in to work when she's properly winding down. I keep my current horse at a livery yard which wouldn't really be appropriate for a youngster so wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere in the Glasgow region (including Inverclyde, Refrewshire, Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway and the Central Belt) which offers weanling or youngster livery?

Thanks!

Good luck. I tried to find youngstock livery for my two year old. The closest place I found offering that is owned by a fellow HHO member, but it’s down near Abington. I didn’t want her that far away, so she’s at a normal yard which has a set up that’s okay for youngsters.

I have mine on retirement livery near Edinburgh, if that’s any use, but probably too far? I think they have youngsters too. They’re out 24/7, on very good grazing with natural shelter.

Thanks both for your thoughts, I trawled through the Central Belt Livery Facebook Group yesterday and found that there's some space at Duneaton Equestrian near Biggar, not viewed it yet but seems to have 24hr turnout with other youngsters so hoping that make work!

Thanks for the suggestions Dizzy Socks, Edinburgh might be a bit too far for me as I'm actually West of Glasgow, but good to know there's an option that way if in a pinch!

Yes, the yard near Biggar is the one I was thinking of. When I learned my mare was in foal, I thought about sending her there, and she kindly offered to take us in, but the vet said the horse was too late in her pregnancy to be safely moved (I mean, if they have to go to the hospital, they move, but this wasn't that). So she had the foal at the current livery yard.

If I was keeping said foal, however, he would probably go on youngstock livery at Charlotte's yard.
