Has anyone else had this problem? My just turned six new pony plants when first mounted and literally nothing will move him other than someone dragging him on the ground. Then he'll jog forwards for a minute or two before settling and working nicely and enthusiastically. The only other time he has done it is once on a hack when we had to pull off the track and wait, and then he did it, but normal walk/halt/walk is fine.

Any ideas I can try before my next lesson?

Not exactly the same, but sometimes I've had green ponies plant in the carriage. I take my time and periodically take up a feel and ask them on. If they don't want to go, I sit there until they're more bored than I am. I figure they're being calm, and safe, so better to take time than ruin a young pony by flapping about getting agressive.

If they're just being nappy, however, I'd go with 'wip-wapping' the reins on the neck cowboy style, and yelling "YAAAAH"
