My youngster is out on grass all day and on the odd occasion i bring him in at night for some rest (he gets tired playing all day) anyway i swapped a bale if hay with a friend as he is a fussy hay eater and her bale was really dusty. i stuck a leaf in his hay net and BAM the next day almost he's started coughing.... Could he react that quick to bad hay? I've been giving him cough mixture but so far its not easing. I did look at the global herbs products and i had never thought before about horses being sensative to buttercups and general hay fever type symptoms... His field does have a lot of butter cups... Does anyone have any ideas. He came in last night and i didn't use the dusty hay and soaked his normal hay. If it doesn't clear up i might need to make a call to the vet as he's never suffered from anythink like this before...Suppose they will prescribe good old ventipulmin....

They certainly can react that quickly to one dodgy bale. If you've swapped back onto your normal hay i would give it a few days to clear up before you call the vet.

Yup they can react that quickly! Mine has done exactly the same as he had to come in for a few days when the little one went down with lami (couldnt leave him out on his own but now have liveries so back out) and only had one old bale left until I could find some more. Worse thing for me though is that he's up for sale and he coughs right at the wrong moment when someone is viewing!! I found Naf breathe easy(?) sorts it out in a few days.
