As title says my unbacked 3yr old had a real jolly round the field Friday morning (just moved onto a fresh field with her mates) and by the afternoon she wasn't straight at walk swinging her hind legs outwards in a circular movement but only at walk, fine trotting, cantering, rolling and bucking around the field! Checked her again yesterday and she had improved but still not quite right, still looking a bit stiff on her back end. No heat in any limbs. Anyone elses horses had these symptoms? She's 3 and a big hulk of a horse who is short coupled. She doesn't resent being backed up or having pressure along her spine. Will speak to my vet tomorrow if she isn't any better. JUst thought you guys may have had similar problems and be able to offer advice.

Hi there. I hope Erin is going to be ok. She could have pulled something when she had a good run round the field.

See what the vet says but I do have physio coming next week sometime, hopefully Monday 6 April if you want to travel her over to have a session with the physio. Let me know and I'll book her in when I book Flin in.

Physio's website if you want to have a look. www.vetphysio.eu

I'm sure she'll be fine. Speak soon.

Thanks CarmaandFlin have spoken to vets this morning seem to think it will be something muscular with razzing around like a loon for a couple of hours, as she's ok in trot and canter. Need to keep an eye on her for next few days and if no improvement get them out to check her.

My horse did this and it turned out to be his stifle ligament. Like your horse he was swinging his leg out to the side. I think it is more noticeable in walk.

Thanks for that bit of info applecart14. How was your horse treated and is there anything I can do to help aid recovery? I have checked her again today, was on my own so spent about an hour wandering around behind her! she is moving much straighter but the near hind did swing out every now and then, didn't look as stiff though today.

Hi ya. It was many years ago now but i recall that he was on box rest with anti inflammatories, controlled walking exercise and I was advised to take him swimming which I was covered for on my insurance. He went for a few weeks swimming once a week and gradually built up his strength. Had I not taken him swimming I think he would have been fine after a while with the controlled exercise but it helped speed up the process somewhat. I think he was back in work fully after about 3 months. He was diagnosed with a torn stifle ligament. He was only five and a half at the time and I think he'd done it razzing around in the field. Hope that helps x

Thanks applecart14. My filly seems to be doing ok. She lives out 24/7 so i'll probably just leave her to it as she looks a lot less stiff than on Friday. Vet says to get them out if she doesn't carry on improving or she becomes lame so I'll keep my fingers crossed that she conitnues to improve.
