Took Lilly the Filly and Rosie to visit Eaglestone today.
Lilly loaded in her usual fashion - slow.... Rosie waited patiently for her friend to make the 'walk into the trailer' decision, munching her hay.
It's 1hr 1/2 drive, and they both travel well.
On arrival Eaglestones' two horses had kindly given up their paddock for the day so my girls could go out for a rest whilst us humans had lunch.
Then we tacked them up. Lilly the Filly is only 3yrs old and not backed yet (though I've sat on her a few times bareback.) She's up to the stage of lungeing and long reining with her saddle on - so she was tacked up too.
As we had to go down the road a bit, Eaglestone led Lilly and I rode Rosie and Eaglestones' friend came too to bring up the rear and make sure none of the traffic came whipping up behind to close.
I have to say, the traffic round their way is much more careful than mine. So the ponies were fine.
When we got into the woods, we swapped. Eaglestone rode Rosie and I hitched Lilly up to the long reins. She was keen to walk in front, much to Rosie's displeasure as she likes to be in the lead
We walked for about an hour - hour and a half. Lilly happily stepped over a couple of fallen spindly trees, picked her way through the odd boggy bit, and managed the stoney areas with her unshod hooves which is good as I intend to leave her unshod.
Apart from wanting to stop and sniff every lump of horse poo
and eat a bit of grass here and there, she just plodded along, looking around and enjoying the countryside.
Rosie didn't spook once with Eaglestone either which was great !
When we got back - the girls went back into the paddocks and Eaglestone and I went for a pub tea
Then loaded them both back in the trailer - Rosie straight in, Lilly: dither....dither.....dither
Trundled home and got back to the farm at about 9.15pm.
Was sooooo pleased with them both especially Lilly as she hasn't been out and about all that much but took it all in her stride and was an angel all day.
Thanks for reading!!
