For those interested and following my posts about my 3yr old cob :)
Yesterday i spent ages bathing her only for her to be turned out and caked in mud this morning after that torrential rain  so bath time again, just a quick sponge over to get the worst off as our lift was arriving in 20 mins
Bearing in mind she only had her FIRST EVER bath with a hose on wednesday she behaved and stood like an angel :) Trailer time, again FIRST TIME ever loading and travelling (we had a practice last week) well she walked straight on first time and tucked into her hay, very relaxed. We packed friends TB in and then we set off. Arrived after 20 mins, sun was just coming out :) after paying and entering our classes we unloaded, youngster stepped off and was like WOW! afterall this was her FIRST ever time away from the villiage/field she was born/raised! walked her round and discovered a HUGE poo stain all up her legs and her tail  got washing with a sponge but she wouldnt stand still and ended up kneeing me in the face/head OUCH! its really lucky i had my hat on as it could have been nasty. So decided to leave the legs and made our way to the ring. There where 10 in the class - best driving type and a pretty strong line up of some really nice types, after calling to everyone and almost pulling me over she soon settled - just like that.
Trot up was lovely, very flowing, she stood beautifully for the judge and did a few steps of rein back. :) was very surprised to be pulled in 6th place :D
Next class was right after, colored 3 and under, again a class of 10 strong. Beautiful leopard spot appaloosas and very striking coloreds. We didn't get placed this time but still pleased as she behaved so well.
We had around 2 hours to kill as friend had classes so went back the trailer to chill, had water changed into halter then spent the next few hours walking round, grazing and generally taking it all in. She was super chilled, stood quietly and wasn't fazed atall.
So a very happy report for our first outing :D
Am so tired and have a hell of a head ache, bit worried incase it has anything to do with me being clunked in the head this morning, but headache only came on about an hour ago??

Anyway pics :D

You both look very well turned out but can I say that she is rather over weight. It might be the reason you were not placed??

Also - you said she had managed to cover herself in poo too - you should try damage limitation maneuvers as greys are just poo magnets - Bathe her the night before and use Daz on that tail! Then get yourself a lycra hood and rug her up with a lightweight rainsheet and the hood. Scrub those feathers to within an inch of their lives - patch test with daz too if normal shampoo does not work. Scrub the poo again in the morning (leave yourself enough time to own a grey!!!) and wrap up the tail in a full length bag or tail bandages (lots of them!) and bandage and boot those legs - not for safety for anti poo marks and take a lot of water and fairy liquid with you to the show!!

Can I also recomend that those feathers are not really doing anything for her - they are a bit inbetween for my likeing - not really big enough to keep and look rather untidy. A good trim all round would do her the world of good ( heels, tail, chin and jaw line) and plait or hog too.

Her whole look is not really show horse nor traditional or native - you need to pick one area and stick to it but to me her flowing locks are not good enough to leave un-trimmed....

God I really do sound hyper critical but I actually really like her - good luck!!

Well done! I took my youngster out when she was still a foal and remember your feeling well-except mind broke free and fecked off round the trailer parking at the end!!

I do agree with BM though, if you hope to get in to showing properly, shes very overweight. I'd also get the clippers to her jaw line and feathers-no advice on the tail as that's sparkling White compared to my poor puzzle!! But if you're not getting in to showing that's fine-I took my baby purely for the experience. I let her eat grass in the ring and generally chill cos I couldn't care where she was going to be placed. I just enjoyed myself!

Do keep an eye on that weight though, I know how hard it is when they're babies as they're not doing any work to burn it off. Xx

Thanks for the advice, its appreciated :)
The show was just to get her out for the experience really so wasnt too bothered about the mess :) i did want to speak to the judge but didn't have a chance.
But yes, i know shes over weight, shes on resticted grazing and has actually lost a fair deal since the spring, shes such a good doer complete opposite to my TB!!
I agree with the feather too, i really want to clip her legs and pull her mane and show her plaited but wasnt sure really?
We have another outing in august so tempted to do it all then, plus when she is in ridden work next year - well certainly by autumn i wanted to introduce her to hunting so that mane will have to go! :o

Congratulations on your first show! Bet your very relieved she behaved herself.

Also just thought I'd point out I saw you yesterday!! She did look very chilled wandering around with all the horses :D

I am disapointed by some of the comments about clipping out the feathers and hogging the mane. Why buy a trad cob and then strip it of its natural beauty.
Your cob is only young - the mane and tail still have a lot of growing yet. She would look so beautiful with all her feathers and mane fully grown. As for hunting - why the need to hog - if it gets in the way then put long plaits in. You do not pull and then put in little plaited knots on this type of cob.

:D she was pretty hard to miss with her black ears and lawn-mower like capability of major grass eating :D

Her dam is the same, not much feather and long thin mane, TBH i don't think she will grow any hairier. Her sire is a traditional (shes out of south hill duke)

She ISNT a traditional, thats why shes not got enough hair! Annoying my little one is similar, although she has more mane and tail, her feathers are PANTS!

She's lovely, and well done:-)

I wish we had Driving Type classes up here: my boy would kick ass:-P

Agreed with the others about her feather and mane; it's not really good enough to keep. :-(

I think she'd look lovely hogged out. Some clever leg clipping will give her more 'bone' too.

At least the decision's a bit easier for you: my boy has an amazing mane and good feather but a pretty rubbish forelock by comparison:-( Hogging may be happening next spring!

(damp feathers are not good feathers)

Not sure about hogging  but def going to clip legs, trim beard and pull her mane, i think she would suit it :)
