Today was the day of my rising 4 y.o's first party - unaffiliated Prelim! She's only been 'in work' a couple of months (in work being 10 minute sit on a week... oops) but is an incredibly intelligent little pony that picks up and remembers everything so quickly it's astounding! Unfortunatly this means she gets bored very easily...
A 5.30 start this morning (which was actually 4.30 as clocks went forwards!) wasn't the best omen. Neither was the schooling session yesterday in which Ruby decided the only speed is 100mph and nothing can persuade her to flex or listen or do anything resembling dressage. Pah! Poncy stuff! No way!
Arrived with plenty of time just in case pony was bouncy. Got into warm up with 25 minutes to go with plans of lots of dawdling round to get used to atmosphere. Well, in strolled Mrs Cocky who immediatly marched up to a lovely banner, tore it off the fence and began munching. Thankfully area was bustling so I don't think we got noticed, just chivvied her away as quickly as possible, and put on our most innocent expressions and loudly admired the artists 'style.'
Very proud as little pony weaved through big baby eventers who were snorting and prancing, flicking her little toes out and trying to big herself up to more than her 14.2 self... not going to happen Rubes
So she warmed up nicely, soft and listening to my leg. Decided I didn't really mind what she did in the actual test as she had been so lovely...
Well, she was a bit green going from the warm up to by herself and called quite a lot. A bit unsettled mentally, which meant the test started a bit on a battle of wills
no ruby you WILL turn now (this was supposed to be turning at E... oops)
Due to dodgy beginning (which included a cow-kick in protest at my leg at one point, and my dropping my reins totally, and fearing her going up in the middle of our free walk!) we scored 63.2% which is over half so I'm very pleased! Got a 7 for the halt too. We came =6th but sods law meant rosettes only went down to 5th, doh!
Overall, very pleased with the donk. No major mishaps (apart from the banner...) I just wish she was a hand or two bigger so I can justify keeping her!
