'llo all...

I dont post in here very often as I am not really 'competative' however I'm hoping thats going to change, which is partly why I am posting this....

I have a 4yo exracer mare that I have been having fun on all summer. Her schooling is pretty basic but she is obidient enough, we can jump a small course and she has had a go at showing, dressage and jumping at shows over the summer - we're not gonna set the world alight but she is perfect for me...

I have decided to introduce her to xc before the end of the year - our eventual aim is to do intro/pn level ODE's - and in a rush of blood to the head moment have booked Tweseldown out on Saturday afternoon.... eek!

I've watched a couple of events there and didnt think it looked too nasty, though watching the pros fly over it has probably given me a false sense of security!!!

So, my question is - young horse, 1st time xc, going to Tweseldown, can anyone give me any words of wisdom/advice/nice anecdotes? Is there any jumps there I should be watching out for (bearing in mind we wont jump anything much over 2'6?)

Or does anyone have any general advice about taking a young horse xc for the first time....?

if all else fails will grab neck strap, shut eyes and kick like hell!!!

Thanks...

my friend is bringing her older mare - however when hacking out we tend to give her a lead over/past stuff so not sure how that will work!!!

Pinks has gotten quite bold jumping logs etc so hoping she'll take this in her stride...

<crosses everything>

Don't worry I'm sure you will have a lovely time. When we school at tweseldown we tend to trot/canter once round the edge to warm up and so you can make a mental note of any jumps you want to do. Your mare will probably get into the swing of things if you try to link 5 or 6 small jumps together each time rather than starting and stopping. Good luck and don't forget we will want to see photos xx

Thanks for that...! Have watched a couple of events there and had a good walk round the course when there so got a good idea what I'm gonna jump, I know theres not that many little ones there but will jump what we can...

looks like there will now be 4 of us, including my friends more experienced mare so hopefully we'll have a lead if needed!!! Another friend is bringing my other horse who has never done this either so could be an interesting day!

OH is photographer for the day
