I hear that the market is dead and foals and other youngsters just aren't selling, if is this is so, where are they all???

I am after a foal or yearling, a cob cross or native cross, or lighter weight cob, or section D, basically a hardy type with a bit of bone that can be athletic also, to make about 15.2hh.

Gelding or filly, colt possible as long as breeder can keep till gelded.

Does anyone know of anything that may fit the bill?
Or could you point me in the right direction where breeders are concerned.

I can't find anything is Scotland :(
 
Ok, I'm in dundee, will travel a couple of hours, will pay up to 1000, and looking for something that will make a all round RC horse.
Would prefer a 2011 foal, would go for a yearling if perfect.
I'm willing to wait till spring and check out 2012 foals if nothing grabs me.

You'll struggle finding a decent Welsh D to make 15.2hh. When I looked years ago for a 3yo Welsh D to make 15.2hh (because Im too tall for the smaller ones), I ended up having to buy unseen (well I saw video footage!) from Wales! There were a couple around in Scotland but they were not nice types. Definately didnt regret buying from Wales, thats where you'll find the good ones.
 
Meikles make ~15.2h and are good, sane section Ds. be careful what breeders you ask for 15.2h section Ds in Wales as there is the issue of them losing type as they get bigger and some breeders are very anti over height cobs. Maesmynachs get big and they are a big stud with plenty of choice, I really like them but they aren't to everyone's taste.
 
I got my existing section D from Wales MagicMelon, she is to make 14.2hh, fine for me but my daughter will need bigger in the future. I'm not opposed to buying unseen providing I see videos of foal moving etc.
Transport costs is another issue, south to north could be pricey!!

Meikles is one option I will look at peteralfred :)
 
If you are after a good all round Welsh D then Meikle are the way forward. My friend had one many years ago and evented him, pony clubbed, show jumped and pony raced him. He is still teaching kids to ride and pony club and he must be kicking on for 25. Forward going but safe as houses. I wouldn't say they were the best for showing though as you get much, much nicer show cobs than them.
 
You could try Tom Dunbar horse dealer from Airdrie. He usually has loads of mixed youngsters around the place and if he doesn't have it he knows many breeders who might.
Not for the faint hearted though... tends to be unhandled off the hills sorts-some nice papered ones, some awful ugly things!! BUT if you like to find a bargain and can see through the filth and hair you can get something nice for little money.
Its wrong time of year really as if it was October you could have told him exactly what you wanted and he would have picked some up at the welsh sales.
I know he has cut his numbers lately, but I've purchased 6 yearlings between £50-500 from him and they've all gone on to do well at Royal highland, Black isle show, WCPS etc.
You just need to be clear and precise in what you want for the price...

fabulous horses, not that Im biased ;) they do pure D's - sure there was some youngstock to make pretty big height on the website and PB's. They are at Laurencekirk, so only 1/2 hour north for you too ;)

eta - yup, top of youngstock for sale page, sec d filly to make 16hh :D

Thanks for the most recent suggestions, I've checked out websites, searched everything I can think of and there is nothing local in my price range.
Fiona stewart has a skewbald that's lovey but at 1500 its too expensive.
Balhagarty is one to keep an eye on, the ones I liked are sold but I'm sure more will be born in 2012.
