I posted a few weeks ago about do you think my horse is in pain. Well its turned out he has a sore back, he has been on box rest and antiinflamortories (sp) and walked out twice a day, I am supposed to get back on him tomorrow for a hack to see if any better.

Personally on the ground I dont think he is any better, gave his back a few squeezes tonight (where vet found it sore) and he flinched slightly, so what I am asking is would you attempt to ride and see what happens or would you just tell vet he is no better?

Vet said there was some soreness in his back to put him on box rest but walk him out twice a day and then take him for a hack tomorrow and see how he is, if no different then they would arrange a chiropractor to come out.

He has been walked out but he each time he has had a kick about which is not like him, so figured he has done it cause of pain and needing a streach, so cause he is still out of sorts when leading I am reluctant to get on him and see what he is like cause i think he is obviously still in pain.

I know my horse and it is not like him to be this way but my mother is making me doubt my own thoughts, she thinks he is being feed too much, but i reduced his feed a few weeks ago when all this started. So am asking others opioins.

godknows vet didnt give an opinion but I told them it could of been when we had snow even though i plastered vaseline in his feet the snow still balled up and at times it was like he had stilts. Unfortunately due to the road leading home being black ice i thought it safer leaving him out.

If you think he's still in pain, then don't ride him. I don't understand why the vet reccommended box rest in this situation. I would have thought turnout to keep him moving and the chiro/physio to treat immediately would have been far better.

I would get a chiro or physio out to him asap, IMO vets just are not good with backs, box rest will do him no good.
Vicky Spalding is in yorks area and she is v.v good, Iwould reccomend her.

I'd get a chiro out to him and most definitely wouldn't be getting on whilst he clearly still has some residual pain/discomfort. Better to be safe than sorry and you don't want him to start getting difficult about being mounted and ridden for the sake of a little more time.

My vet was a bit clueless about my horses back, however hes now booked in to for a scintigraphy at Edinburgh. I did find the chiro a lot more helpful with regard to whats going with him, but needed the vet to book him in for further tests. I wouldn't be getting on your horse if you think hes still in pain.

Thank you to all you confirmed what I was thinking.

Just put him out in smallish paddock and he went crazy bucking, kicking and rolling and rolling, must be such a relief for him. Have left him out tonight and will be calling vet again tomorrow asking for chiro to come out and see to him.
