Your Biggest Horse Fears!

i will happerly jump any horse any height etc, ride rearers (like brit) buckers or just plain stubbon. but the fear of falling off and being drag is horrible. or being hit by a car.

I won't list all of them becuase there is not enough space....I am a paranoid hyperchondriac (SP)

most horses on the ground unless they are as soft as sheep and I know them.
Horses I don't know in a field and even those I do in a group if pratting about
My horse slipping.....anywhere....whilst riding, in the field charging around......
kickers and biters.....I always manage to find them and get munched or double barrelled!
My horse being hurt/ill/PTS
not so much bolting or bucking but rearing and bronching scare me too........

I'm pretty fearless riding though I always worry something in the bushes (like a squirrell etc) might make them jump infront of a car!

Pretty paranoid about them getting kicked in the field around the gate; my friend lost her childhood pony one night when they were getting them in from the field - usual gate squables (sp!) and he was kciked in the knee and it was shattered.

Ditches. Just cann't get my head round them after having one pony with a desire to throw me in them, even though I've since had 2 who jump them easily.
Don't do rearers at all.
And really solid vertical fences, have a big fear of flipping over them.

Being reared or bolted with, not getting my feet free of the strirrups when I come off and bucked off in bronc mode. Unfortunately I have on occasion had to deal with the broncing with my boy but we try to avoid situations that set him off now or make sure I am in the open so I can give him a big pony club kick on!!!

i [****] myself when cars come up behind me too fast with no intention of slowing down. last one hit us

Fear - being galloped up a road again, seeing a car stop so suddenyl there was smoke from it's tyers and just when the flat out gallop was close to a really fast canter the loose horse cathching up and off we go again, managed to get down a side track, saw corner, though to self - not going to make this ...... did not !!! came too in a bush - horses eventually stopped before main road before yard and ate grass !!!!

Fear - falling off and loosing the horse !

Fear less - will ride anything, no matter what size.

Fear - present horse falling over flat on his face on stoney track...... again !!

I'm scared of riding through fields with cows in after some cows started chasing my horse and made him bolt - I hate the way they look at you too!!

I also don't much like jumping down hill after my pony slipped and broke my leg. Horse that spook suddenly worry me especially on the road as I think they're gonna jump in front of a car.

I also fear of horse spesh when i dont know them. I know when mine happened although was v quick i woudln't of jumped off and saved my self because i wasn't sure what the horse would of done... and whether he'd carry on down road and cross dualcarriage way to his home! And part from horse could go hurt a lot more people... dread to think!

Sounds stupid but getting on!
I had a bad fall from a horse a year and a half ago where it would start broncing as soon as I put my foot in the stirrup. Once I managed to get on him but he threw me off and dislocated my elbow. I never rode that horse again but every time I mount a horse now I always have it in the back of my mind that its going to start broncing. No horse ever has (thank god) but the first few times after the fall I was a shaking bag of nerves. Although once on I'm fine

I'd say i'm pretty fearless about jumping and horses bucking/rearing etc.
I'm more scared of things like the horse falling (after seeing laspen rock star fall at brightling) or being hit by a car - so things that you or the horse can't control.

Gates with the pin stuck out (Saw a TB rip its shoulder out to the bone once!). Small gates with pins stuck out (like out hunting).

If I see a horse jump out of the field it worries me because of what happened to Holly!

I think my biggest fear is getting dumped under a truck. although to be fair (touch wood) ty isn't spooky on the road (famous last words)

Not really scared of falling off cause if it's gonna happen it's gonna happen and it happens so fast you haven't really got time to think about it.

hoof in the head is another one but that can happen any time I guess so not worth worrying about really.

Bolting.

I grew up with naughty ponies that used to take off with me and you'd think I'd be used to it but it completely freaks me out. Especially since that 4 yr old took off with me and a I fractured my back.

I even get wobbly when they bolt on the lunge these days and we have a school pony who has a bit of a tendancy to take off and I won't take him in my lessons because I get too distressed (haven't told my boss that this is the reason though). Hopefully once the injury is a bit further behind me, I will start to be less neurotic about it

But generally I try not to acknowledge any fears when riding because most of the time I don't think they are helping me.

Bolters!!! Last time was not pretty (hence KrashnBurn) that is my fear for myself...

Fears for my boy are him putting a hoof down a rabbit hole or similar...

And choking....it happened about 4 years ago and I am ultra paranoid about feeding him. He never ever has nuts any more.

We had a nasty fall over one in the summer and we're both slowly getting our confidence back over them....but it's taking it's time.

i dont think i have any fears now! have has all the major incidents, horses smashing through trailer, being bolted with, jumping 5ft. thats the thing about fears once you have lived through them you have conquered them, although my ONLY fear is losing Flint

Since I went to the field one day last summer and found my horse with horrible gashes all over her back legs from getting tangled in a barbed wire fence, my main fears are around her injuring herself in the field.

Also get scared jumping big showjumps in competitions (strangely I'm ok with cross country), but that's cos my horse is still green and can be very inconsistent.

Still get a bit nervous about loading but that's 'cos I had a horrible experience where I'd loaded my horse and my friends horse was playing up outside rearing and refusing to load. Upshot was he pulled free and galloped off and she 'unloaded' herself snapping bum belt and rope and they both disappeared into the horizon to be found 6 miles away galloping up a main road. I still have horrible nightmares about it...

I hate hacking! Used to do it all the time when I had ponies who never thought about it. But then I started getting horses who were horrid to hack (nappy, spooky etc.). I had one pony last year who was lovely to hack so I was getting back into it again but then we had an accident which involved us both falling off a high bank onto a barbed wire fence..... And one of my current horses bolts at the sight of cows. So never again! I do OCCASSIONALLY try to hack but not far! I will hack in the forestry etc. but where I am I have to go on roads which are just too dangerous. I'll merrily charge round a XC course but make me hack down a road, no thanks!

Having a horse horse fall on top of me from rearing- otherwise nothing to much not to keen on really strong horses as dont like feeling out of control- bucking /spooking etc doesnt really bother me though!

Different fears for different horses! Current youngster has made me dread wooden bridges, fast traffic and cantering downhill because he bucks ...

My old TB had me wary of dogs and motorbikes.

Pretty fearless at going at speed, hacking out alone, boxing up and travelling.

Erm, pretty much any situation where i don't feel confident or in control?

I think that's pretty natural and instinctive....but I think I feel like that about too many situations.

I am a very nervous rider, due to past experiences, and even though Bob has done wonders for my confidence, as soon as I'm in a situation that's out of my comfort zone, I panic and envisage the worst case scenario.

Mine is silly....I am scared of looking a fool.

I hate schooling in front of people and SJ/dressage comps in an indoor arena bring me out in a cold sweat.

I'm not really concerned about any physical acts of riding or handling horses .... at the moment!
