Some Twitter fun brought to the Horse and Hound forum in the form of cancellable takes.
Twitter's been full of 'Today we're cancelling each other over (such and such a topic)' so thought I'd bring it over here to the forum for a bit of fun!

So what's a horsey opinion you have that you think is perfectly right but many don't agree with?

Want to stress this is just a bit of fun so please don't actually 'cancel' each other ... but do have some friendly debate if you'd like!

Oh, and my horse Jay enjoyed living here alone!

He had previously been on big yards. We were going to get him a companion. He was so settled, we didn't. He remained good to ride/compete in company. He was mildly perturbed when joined by other horses, for weeks at a time, then more settled again when they left.

He liked his mum.

Others have preferred (and had) company, but Jay liked it with just us.

Saying “X is okay when used by an experienced rider” is a breeding ground of people who don’t actually understand how X works, or who don’t care and just want the horse’s head to go down/legs to come up. I’m sick of amateurs - and professionals - using totally unnecessary tools, and then responding with, when questioned, the above line.

There’s no reason for spurs in any discipline outside of higher levels of dressage - and even there, they shouldn’t be obligatory. The only defence I see for them is that they’re needed for refining the aids. Exactly what aids are you refining XC?

Your horse ‘not loving’ being turned out is because they’ve been accustomed to their stable, and need time to make the adjustment. Any responsible owner shouldn’t use this as an excuse to not ensure that their horse is spending enough time outside.

Yes, mine travels with just a headcollar and rope too.

And while we're at it, I 'hard tie' to a ring, no string etc (although I do use a panic release so I can undo if there is a total disaster).

I groom and muck out in the morning without catching up the horse, so he is loose in with me. I quite like it when he pinches the poop scoop or wooffels in my ear while I work. We groom each other.

Oooh, I could get into these confessions!

(Almost) all gems!

Ground work is not for those who are “too scared to ride”. It might actually be that those who understand it’s value in training may beat the pants off you in competition when they are riding as they know a quantifiable outcome when they see one.

It seems this is turning into my life's work, along side actually fitting saddles!

Turning out a wet (sweat or water) horse won't kill it.
.

Nor will riding them. Just need to be clean.

My horse wears two pairs of over reach boots 24/7 and has done since October 2021.
Although I may be removing one pair when the ground conditions are better.

Showing that I am old, yet again, what is a ‘cancellable take’?
I cannot see any sense in the phrase.

edit.. I have just read the opening post again and I understand. However I still don’t see what those 2 words have to do with the explanation given, sorry.
