Its official I now need to let the horses out into the big field as their strip grazing has become rather poached. I normally let them out to be horses for the winter in October but looks like I cant this year as the grass flush is worse than in spring so muzzles are the way forward although I will feel bad.
Any recommendations and stories of how you trained your horse to wear and use one

We use a Shires cob size one (bright pink!!) which fits our 14.2hh Sect Dx mare fine.
She does occasionally get it off, but we have a headcollar over it now (she's only out 1 hour a day at the moment due to lami recovery) but if your horse can get it off and you don't want to leave them with headcollars, plait their forelock round the head band.
Ours did rub last year but we smothered it in Vaseline and it stopped that :) it hasn't rubbed at all this year.
She took really well to the muzzle we gave her a carrot through the hole and she's never bothered since :)
good luck!!

I've tried many and now always stick to the Shires one. With a horse that's not used one before I put on and push a carrot up the hole - they soon realise they can eat through it.

Best place I found to buy shires stuff online is www.barnstormers.co.uk
