Hi all,

Guess I'm just looking for a bit of moral support from those that have experienced tying up before! (sorry if its a bit long!).

Bit of background, my mare tied up nearly 3 months ago, horses were in 24/7 due to flooded fields and although she was getting gentle exercise twice a day, one day it was just too much and she tied up really severely (for those that are in the know, her CK level was 77,000 when it happened!

). Vet was astounded it was this bad, she's not an eventer or really fit competition horse and had been on very little hard feed.
Anyway, she was on 100% box rest for about 3 weeks, then gentle turnout in a small paddock (of course no work or hard feed during this time) and then eventually seemed well enough and levels were down sufficiently for her to start gentle work (walk/trot only for 20 mins) and to go into proper turnout. Since then, her levels have been up and down like a yo-yo, even though she has shown no physical signs whatsoever.
Upshot is that vet has said if there are not settling down by next week, she has to go in for a muscle biopsy. I'm absolutely gutted, to look at her you would never know she has anything wrong! And she certainly wants to be doing more work than she is at the moment!

Is there anyone out there who has had any similar experiences?

ps. huuuuge glass of vino for getting this far!!

A muscle biopsy will tell you whether the reason for the azotoria was caused by underlying muscle disease - a friend on mine used to process all the biopsies etc. this will help work out how to help her improve.
Talk to saracens horse feed about what sort of diet may help.
Good luck

What you need is some Equine America Ty-Guard. We used it daily on Dol and successful stopped any more bouts. PM me and I will give there number or you can google them
