Would you knowledgeable people please be able to recommend me a brand of exercise sheet? Is that what you call them? There is not a big need for them here in Australia and they aren't in the shops, so I'll be buying one from over your way.

Something that looks a bit flash is always good, but above all, fits well and is practical and does the job.

Thankyou

Waterproof?

Rambo are well made, good quality and I have quite a few of them and rate them.

Eskadron are lovely for a bit of bling / warming up at shows.

Mark Todd pretty nice but slightly smaller than sized I would say

I prefer the wrap around style which go under the flaps of the saddle not under the saddle. They aren't good for a monoflap saddle tho.

Then there is thermatex, never had one of them but they do look smart.

I wouldn't buy an equisafety one if it was the last rug left on earth.

Picked up a full size Mark Todd exercise sheet at Your Horse Live for £20. Bargain of the century, one of those that wraps around the front of the saddle. Waterproof and very thinly lined with fleece. Love it! They retail around £40 in the shops here. I had the 5' and it fits my middleweight WB who stands at 17.1hh and is in 6ft6-6ft9 rugs.

I can still put my hi viz exercise sheet from Aldi over the top for hacking (SEE PHOTO).

Possibly slightly thicker than you would want but I think you can't beat a traditional Witney wool quarter sheet. They aren't cheap, but quality rarely is, mine has been going for more than 20 years now and will probably outlive me.

I have had the fluorescent Mark Todd one (waterproof, fleece lined, cut out for the saddle) which was fab, never slipped.

More recently I have a pure wool ride on (no cut out) exercise sheet. It has a stripe but it's burgundy/navy/hunter green so it's lovely on. It isn't a premium one but it blocks the wind and the rain just sits on top and it's lovely and warm. It has made a huge difference to my older boy. I'm still a bit tempted to try a Thermatex one but I like this one so much I'm not sure whether there's any point.

I also have a V-Bandz fluorescent quarter sheet as well which is waterproof but only cotton lined so not warm. If it's wet/poor visibility I put the wool sheet under the saddle and then this quarter sheet over the top (to save the wool one getting as wet) and I have to say it's a great combination.

Equitheme tundra. Its normal fleece outer, sherpa fleece inside so it's nice and thick and doesn't stretch. The cut is very smart. Best one i've had yet!

For hacking I use a hideous orange monstrosity:

I'm partial to a simple Mark Todd fleece for day to day stuff

But for smart stuff I really like his Eqco quarter sheet:

I have the Mark Todd wrap around one in brown with caramel piping- it;s great for schooling as water proof and lightly lined.

I also had a Rambo newmarket wrap around competition one in the caramel stripw that looks stunning on my chestnut gelding. I rarely use it now as don;t do full clips anymore as dobbin doesn;t do the work to justify it. I can;t bring myself to part with it though.

i mostly use my thin florecent one when hacking.

I prefer the competition sheets - I've got the Rambo Newmarket one in brown stripe but all the colours they do are nice

I suppose it depends on what you need it for: - visibility, warmth, waterproof, flies etc

I have a rambo waterproof one that I use the most and like the cut of. I rarely use my other one as it goes under the saddle so a pain to take off and I find it's too much under my leg for schooling so only use for hacking when it's cold but dry. I'm trying to convince myself that I need a thermatex quarter sheet as I loved the one I borrowed but I already have two.
