I've just bought a big first aid box for the yard to put my own together for the yard because I'm not a huge fan of the ready made kits you can get.

I'd appreciate if you could all list what you've got in yours or what you find useful to have in your own so I can put a shopping list together without missing anything important out!

Thank you folks :)

This is a list of what is in mine -

Clean bowl or bucket
Clean towel
Large roll of cotton wool
Round-ended curved scissors for trimming hair from wound edges
Antibacterial scrub - Hibiscrub
Ready-to-use poultice eg Animalintex, Poultex
Wound gel
Non-stick dressings
Gamgee
Large scissors
A selection of bandages including
Vetrap
A roll of electrical insulating tape
Duct tape
A gentian violet or antibiotic spray
Petroleum jelly
Wound powder
Wound gel such as Dermagel, intrasite gel or vetalintex
Small pair of tweezers
Thermometer
Paper and pencil
A bright torch for inspecting wounds in poor light
Sterile gloves
Hoof Boot

I do have a 1st aid box but usually nothing is in it as the components are scattered about all over the shed! I am lazy about putting things away I'm afraid.

But what I have is iodine, cotton wool, also some spray antiseptic stuff.
Animalintex, plastic saved from feed bags, vetrap and duck tape, for poulticing.
A livestock thermometer.
Ordinary bandages, also some icepack things that live in my freezer.
I would also include the rugs I own as part of this as they are only ever used if one of the ponies is ill and showing signs of being cold.

That's all I can remember for now. For anything more serious I'd be getting the vet out anyway.

hibiscrub
empty water bottle to mix above hibiscrub up in to use!
cotton wool
gamgee
animalintex
duct tape for poultices
vet wrap
scissors
wound powder
purple spray
green oils gel
plasters and wound dressings for me! (can use vet wrap to keep in place)
I'm sure there's more but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I have 2 first aid boxes, one for feet, with iodine spray, salt, nappies, poultices, vetwrap and duct tape with a shoe puller in a plastic bag.
The other is for wounds etc with the usual stuff.
