If this sounds a bit silly - sorry in advance.

I have two horses, one mare who I bought 2 years ago. She came with tack. My youngster I bought 1 year ago, unbacked without tack. I bought his first leather saddle today. Its stunning. I was quite emotional when I put it on - its like your kid's first pair of shoes. I am buzzing with excitement

Oh that is LOVELY! I will get a picture of mine tomorrow. I love the smell and the feel of my new saddle. Its so comfortable. My mare's is a Thorowgood which is great but no way near as comfy as my new leather one. It fits him so well seeming as though he has a short flat back. It took about 7 saddles to find the right one. I thought I'd never find one. Yours it gorgeous. What's it like to ride in?

I dont know!

It took me 3 saddle-fittings for her to finally give up and say I had to find one myself

Haven't had a chance to get the saddler out due to various reasons (this was bought off of ebay but I'm still in love). She's told me she's sure it will fit him but it needs to be widened first *Cries*

Sorry FS , you wont have to wait long!

Care for it using something like Effax or Hamanol. If it gets really filthy, wipe it off with a cloth soaked in hot water, then rinse. Don't drench the saddle. Then just rub in one of the leather care products I suggested.

not sad at all, its a great feeling buying a new saddle, especially if its your horses first saddle. i bought my 3yo her first saddle a week or so ago. ill get a pic of it tommorow for you

My saddler is a master saddler and the best known/rated one i could find for my new horse! She said a lot of the products advised actually saturate the leather and ruin it by making it go over supple and soft, she said just use a damp cloth to wipe of the dirt then good old saddle soap! So that is what i am doing anyways

Oh don't remind me of the price! Its my birthday next week and I am very lucky that my family (who are non horsey and can't understand why I would pay soooooo much for something like a saddle!) have bought it for me as a present.
