Am I just a miserable old so and so? 4 of us went to Your Horse Live yesterday and you couldn't move.

It was so busy, you kept bumping into people.

The trade stands were so busy, you struggled to get to the till or look at any of their goods.

(They MUST have had no end of stock pinched)!
blush.gif
There is no way they could have policed it adequately!
blush.gif
I came away without buying half I wanted I was just so fed up of pushing my way through the crowds.
mad.gif
The demos were good, but unless you got there half an hour early you couldn't get a seat.
mad.gif
Just to finish off my rant, If there had been a fire in some of the buildings, you wouldn't have stood a chance of getting out.

If they had only half the customers there, it would have been a great day out, but I found it stressful, tireing and not a patch on HOYS!

I won't be going again!

youve made me feel better.we were due to go but ran out of time.i had a huge shopping list and felt really frustrated at not going.sorry not much consellation for you though.

I was going to go for the first time so glad I didnt. I planned to go next year if I couldnt this year. Might change my mind if its that busy.

I am so glad i did not go, as a sufferer of IBS and panic attacks that would of been my worse nightmare come true.
That really frustrates me that so many places think more about getting money in than safety and comfort for the people there

I think it was because instead of it being Fri Sat and Sun as normal they held it over two days only. I agree, it was manic. I was fed up of pushing my way through people by 11am. We watched Andrew Gould who was very good but the sound system was rubbish, really distorted and echoey. We were going to do another demo in the afternoon but all left with thumping heads from the morning one. Like you said you couldn't find anyone on the stalls to help you with anything. Talk about a credit crunch - where - not at YHL. You couldn't get anywhere near the Shop and Drop. I have been going since it was £5 a ticket to get in and must admit will think twice next year.

I went today, wasn't too busy, didn't buy much, just a waterproof coat and yet another rug!!!.....both bargains of course!!!

went yesterday, the demos were good but agree you couldn't really move, and trying to get a seat to watch the demos was almost impossible. I did get a couple of good bargains though!

We've been going since it was originally the Equine event, normally on Saturdays when it's very very busy, but this year we went today and it was bliss, not too busy!
Have noticed over the years tho that the bargains have started disappearing, very few things you can't buy for the same price normally. Worth it for the demo's tho. I loved Oli Towneds grey- so nice to see a horse without martingale etc too! Plus this year it was heated- bonus but for the fact we were expecting it to be cold as ever and had too many layers on!

I was there today and it was great

- it was definately busier than sunday last year and you could get seats for all the demos in the main arena right up to when they started. The smaller arena was packed out everytime and the stands were busy but ok.

I have been going for about 10 years now and still find something to learn form the demos every year - Sylvia Loch was amazing!

I was working on a trade stand on Saturday and you are right, it was heaving!

I am afraid to say you are also right about stock getting pinched - stock check not done yet but I know of certain items that went missing.....

I used to live down the road and have been going for 16 yrs or so, it used to be £4 to get in and were loads of bargains and freebies. Each year we go we say its our last as it seems to go down hill each time.

However, demos are always great to watch ( if you can get a seat). Nest year we are going to HOYS and Burghley and thats it.

I agree it is expensive but the way I look at it you would pay that or more to see one celebrity rider. It was worth it just to see the police horses, I do think they need to make arena two bigger for next year as demo's in there very popular this year, need more seating!! Also better security staff as people standing at front by barriers so no one could see.

Got loads of free feed samples for my friends veteran, especially Allen and page who where really helpful and got pippa funnell's autograph.

Certainly no signs of a recession yesterday!! So so busy on Saturday but still more bearable than when I went to Hoys, the shopping there was awful.

I went to YHL today was great!
Having been to HOYS and YHL a fair amount of times, when HOYS was in London it was fab but when it moved up here to Birmingham I found it lacking in good stalls (its dropped to two halls), I found the demos in one arena good only. YHL has to me much more shopping to offer (yes packed sometimes but mostly in the morning rush) and better demos, I'd personally much rather spend the £8 to get into YHL for a good 7-8 hours than the amount to get into HOYS for a disappointing 3 hours..

Personal choice though

Oh I really wanted to see Sylvia Loch! Had tickets for Sunday but the car broke down so didn't get there was gutted..what did she do slinkyunicorn? Any good tips?

Don't mean to rub it in but she was fab
cool.gif
- very inspirational!

The first demo she was riding and the second she was giving a lesson (did also ride that horse for a bit). Lots of tips about position and the need for using less aids not more - and no gadgets. The only gadget she uses is a schooling stick and only wears spurs on a handful of horses. The lesson was very relevant as rider/horse was at novice level so picked up some good tips to help with my schooling. Shame you missed it - was the best demonstration I have seen there in a while.

I went on Saturday and yes it was busy but didn't think it was too bad and worth the fact that by Sunday most of the bargains were already sold

A load of us went on Saturday and had a great time. Much preferred it the last couple of years when they had the Friday on as well though.

what a pity sylvia loch was'nt in the main arena of YHL - I loved her work -went saturday and I admired that she spoke out against ROLLKUR, and drew attention and answered questions on 'circus' dressage corrupted paces, judging system, anky and gal and Totilas!! brave honest lady!! and BEST OF ALL Sylvia demonstrated why you dont need deep and round and force - I loved her borrowed horse.

Inspirational - "let the horse be proud and show off his neck and body he is beautiful"

I agree!

I couldnt agree more about the amount of people who had been sold tickets. I felt well and truly ripped off! Since the demos were so desperately packed....our ticket had bought us the opportunity to fight around crowded shops for the day! In the end we left early and made a complaint to the organisers who put it down to the fact that the event was running over fewer days than last year....obviously giving them the right to pack as many in as physically possible!

I did however manage to get in to the Ollie Townend demo (the only one i got in to!) and thought it was rubbish! All he seemed to do was go round and round and talk about himself...whilst it might be their brief to do this, I had found Mary King's lecture the year before much more useful and engaging and without the ego.

It's a real shame that the event was ruined as we attended Your Horse Live last year and really enjoyed our day...watching and meeting all the stars that we had paid to see. Safe to say we will not be returning.
