Hi, I'm feeling a bit down about my riding lately, I never seem to have a great lesson. They're always ok or bad and just would like to hear about other peoples worst/most frustrating lessons?
My most frustrating lesson was about 2 years ago, Sunny was being spooky and decided to spook/ run out at one of the jumps, because a noisy horse box was going past, and I went the other way, over the jump. Because my air jacket had gone off, it had made her even more skittish, and took a few more attempts to get her to go over it again. Other than that, I don't really find my lessons frustrating.
I remember as a child multiple lessons on a pony called Carly when I fell off at the end of canter without stirrups because she was so bouncy in the trot... Very frustrating and also, in retrospect, kind of hilarious. I think I eventually learned to cheat/just rise in the trot when she slowed rather than trying to sit it and suddenly not having stirrups wasn't so much of a problem.
As with most things in the horse world, if you are persistent, you'll work through it... So don't worry too much about your negative experiences. You're still learning even if it doesn't feel great and it may be a slow process but you are improving.
Recently I did some work experience at a riding school, and as a thank you they gave me a free lesson. That was totally fine! But where I am used to riding my own horse I really struggled with the school horse. Not being used to the trot and giving different aids was quite tricky!
