Chunky section A on box rest with laminitis. Used to having ad lib hay/haylage. But just want to know your opinions on how many sections of soaked hay to feed a day? All shes getting is hay. Thanks
Do you mean welsh pony section A? How high is the horse?
If she is only getting hay before hand the reason for laminitis could be lack of excercise or too much grass. Might be worth considering both of these during her recovery in order to prevent it again
2% of bodyweight for maintenance, 1.5% for weight loss is a reasonable guide. Really needs to be weighed out, guessing at number of slices is not really good enough
Agree with 1.5% of body weight when at rest (dry matter)
Far more concerned as to how the laminitis arose, if it was due to the type of Hay/ Haylage then you should think about changing.
Not that I would want to disagree with your vet but every laminitis referral I get I want them to move as much as they can and I find that is not possible when on box rest.
If it is possible to have even a yard where she can move around would be something.
The new laminae that are growing down holding the pedal bone in place need to be made aware of the compression and concussion that is needed to make them be healthy and supportive.
