If you saw your perfect pony for sale even though it might be bad timing would you still go ahead and buy it anyway as these types are only around once in a blue moon ???

I've seen mine but it would mean leaving him as a field ornament until next year when I have more time. But he is my perfect type/temp/age/size/price/colour and he is a really lovely person.

But as many of you know time is limited for me right now as still BF baby until the New Year but after that I will have the time I need. ... Hmmmm quandry ..... What would you do?

Would it do the horse any harm having him as an ornament untill next year?
I mean his stage of learning, would he go back wards or be fine after time off.

Will the horse still be cared for and loved until it can be ridden again?

In therory there shouldnt be a problem with it.
But it depends on the individual situation and the horse

He's 4 and has just started to be backed, all they have done is pop a saddle on his back and the usual groundwork so there's not too much he's going to forget :-)

He would be on full livery so looked after very well :-)

If you can afford it, and can ensure that he will be well looked after, I say go for it. If he really is the perfect horse for you then you may regret it in the future if you pass the opportunity up!

Sorry but how can you know he really is the perfect horse for you if you haven't even ridden him? Ideal yes but not perfect surely

When looking for horses I have seen many that on paper have seemed my ideal horse but the ridden/handled reality is not the same

Personally, no, I wouldn't. Unless I have the time and resources to do justice to a new horse, I wouldn't buy it. You end up trying to spread yourself too thinly and having a permanent guilt complex.
There will always be the perfect horse and part of the success of having a perfect horse is buying at the right time in your life.

That said, I'm generalising, I don't know your situation and only you know what you can offer this horse.

I don't think there's ever a definite right or wrong time to buy when you consider how quickly things can and do change. Best thing to do, IMO, is go and view him, then see what your gut tells you.

I would say that another perfect horse will come along - you haven't tried it out. And don't underestimate how much work babies take even when BF is at an end. Wait and see if you have the time for a new baby - I speak from great experience!

I brought my mare without telling my parents ( I was 25 at the time, but still at home) as I was I'n between jobs and doing about 4 part time jobs to pull I'n pennies. I wrote out the for's and against's for everything but my heart won I'n the end. I worked at the yard already so earned my livery and I secured a proper job eventually. Things worked out fine and up until last year things where great. Life now is totally different and very much a struggle but I will fight tooth and nail to keep everything going. Changes I'n circumstances can happen at any point I'n a persons life, but as long as the horses needs can be provided for things are ok.

I did yes- just now!
A horse i used to ride a bit last year and really liked came up for sale. I wasnt in the position really to buy (in fact he's on a very short loan wvtb and i still dont have the cash really) Its winter coming up and i was already slightly worried over time having to ride my horse and my daughters pony whilst she's at school. I didnt have a spare stable and the limit on the field i rent is 3 this one makes 4.
also he didnt come with tack and i cant afford a saddle right now, so he's just on holiday at the minute. I sometimes pop him on the lunge or lead him out off my other horse but he's doing nothing for now.
However i know i have my perfect horse- he's not costing a lot to keep right now and as and when i can afford tack and time to get him going properly i will be thrilled to have made the right decision! I know i'd have been really annoyed at myself to let him go especially as my horse suffers lamneness problems and aften go's months being unrideable.

If you can go for it.

hell yes i would, but then i am not known for my sensible decision making:D my excuse is, you only live once and you'll have plenty of time for regret when you're dead;)
