from the begining:
Saxon my 8 yr old hairy cob is out in day in at night.
Friday was so wet i decided to keep him in with a haynet he was fine friday at 8 am by 11 am he was pawing the ground and showed signs of colic sweating etc and looked miserable he had eaten 3/4 of his haynet. Called out vet who examined and gave anti spasmodic heart rate was 40 , sweating profusely , in touch with vet by phone on and off he returned at 9pm re examined Saxon heart rate now 60 and no improvement not happy to leave overnight as if needed surgery would be too late in the morning so off we go to Leahurst they thought they could feel a poss tumour and took him in to theatre opened him up and found nothing.
They have mentioned grass sickness and have done the eye test which is not 100% they said but it indicated that it possibly is egs .While in theatre they have taken a piece of intestine for another test which they cannot do until Monday this test is 100% accurate.
I thought with egs the intestine is paralized but he had crapped in the box on way there which surely wouldnt of happened if his guts were paralized would it ?
Do any of you have any experience with egs presented with colic ?
Im scared to turn my others out and have got them mooching in the yard with haynets.
in shock at the mo
