I just got Nas the Z-itch to try, we've tried everything else even though vet doesnt think its sweet itch.

Thing is he doesnt really itch his mane. its mainly tail, rump, and shoulders.
sometimes there is one spot on his mane he does have a go at...

would you just put it where it suggest? or the Areas he is most itchy?

thanks :)

Do you always wash off after exercise, I use lavendar or anti-itch stuff that does not need to be rinsed off, it lasts quite a while.
I assume you have cut out any heating feedstuffs and if he needs fed , use a barley free feed like Fast Fibre [allen and page]
Have you had a skin scrape, vet would have suggested it if he thought it was a good idea, I would imagine.

Hi, my horse is very itchy, again the vet does not think it is sweet itch but she does tend to itch her tail and bum a lot including some old fly bites from last year. The vet game me some medicated shampoo, but I'm not too sure it worked, I have been using sweet relief it is a sweet itch lotion but can be used on just irritating skin conditions, after my friend recommended it to me i went to the web site sweetitch.net and its great. after about 2 weeks she completely stopped itching and the fly bites healed. and excellent product very reasonably priced to esp compared to the shampoo i got from my vets.
Good luck

My old pony is very itchy and I use Healing tree Tea-Clenz which is brilliant you only need a small amount so its lasts for ages. Been great for him this year so far he still has a full mane and tail.

Thanks everyone, I did a test patch of the z itch, and gave him full dose yesterday, they did say to use at beginning of season. But I will see how it goes.

I,ve spoken to the vet loads about this and tbh he isn't much help unless I am having the injection that cost 60quid.

He,s fed on a degie hifi and a basic mix just a handful.

I have spoken to simple solutions about trying there total eclipse balancer.
He was on the fast fibre last year but stopped eating it after a while, same as when I originally had him on simple solution.

If this doesn't work I will definitely looking up some of your suggestions. :)

Mmmm, I'm not quite sure what your vet thinks the problem is OP if its not sweet itch? Personally I'd be inclined to ask for a second opinion plus have some bloods etc done so you can get a better idea of what's going on.

What "injection" costing £60 is your vet suggesting?

I did try the Z-itch stuff for mine. He has got sweet itch, "mild to moderate" diagnosis, and he's a piebald with lots of white bits and very sensitive pink skin. I did suspect that the Z-itch made him itch a bit more - but difficult to judge accurately as he moved yards temporarily.

I give him Linseed as a supplement, plus Brewers Yeast, plus Cider Vinegar and some Seaweed. He has Dengie Hi Fi Lite Unmollassed plus a bit of Fast Fibre.

When he comes in from exercise hot (or like today, was out in the field with his buggy rug on and was very hot and itchy when he came in for the night), I wash him down with "Lavendar Wash". Fabulous stuff. I got mega hot riding the other day and did a bucket of it for Himself, and was so bleddy hot that I washed my hair in it coz it was all sticky and sweaty. Instant bliss!!

I'd be inclined to say to your vet that you'd like some firmer idea of what's going on with your horse; and press for another opinion as I feel you need to know what the problem is with your horse.

In the meantime, you could always beg steal or borrow a sweet itch hoody & fly mask and turn yours out with that, and see if this improves the situation?

"Killitch" (benzyl benzoate) is good by the way. Clears the problem up in no time if it is sweet itch.

Our pony rubs his bum on stuff, nowhere else. I thought it might be the shampoo irritating but surely he'd itch all over... if its just bum could it be worms? Do ponies get itchy bums like humans? He was wormed 6 weeks ago. Might have to try the lavender stuff too :)
