Has anyone else had problems communicating with Zangersheide this year? We were keen to have our foal inspected and passported by Zangersheide, and sent off the necessary request with copies of papers to Zangersheide, along with applications to register the dam with Z, and also our ISH who is in foal to a Z stallion. That was 2 months ago .... I sent through a couple of emails enquiring about the application, and eventually got on the phone to them. They did finally say that they could find one application for a mare registration, but the request for the foal inspection and for his dam's registration could not be found. So we've decided to go with the AES! Haven't seen Ken on the forum for a while, but I'm hoping that he can do some chasing! We've taken the regretful decision for this year's foal, but are really keen to have a Z passport for next year's offspring. Bit disappointed, as expected a higher level of efficiency from a continental stud (don't know why!) Ken, if you are out there, a case for a sharp elbow applied in the right place?

I wouldn't be worried - you have not waited long. Remember these organisations have many hundreds of applications to deal with. I know when I send off to KWPN for my foals passports it has taken up to 6/7 months. Similar timescale I have found from Oldenburg too. I have not dealt with Zangersheide re passports as yet - just wanted to say in regards to the time frame I dont think you should reach panic stations yet....

I've emailed them numerous times just wanting to know the lineage of Rock Flamingo Z with no luck.

I really thought they'd be quicker with new passport applications though - the KNHS were very snappy.

I do think that they need to get snappier on their responses and communications .... however , I'm getting educated about the timescales involved! And I have to say that Ken, alerted to the issue, was very prompt in getting on the phone to me and explaining the pressures that Z are under, and the timescales to expect. He's been a bit too successful!!Apparently they are now dealing with 2,500 registration and foal inspection applications annually, as well as, of course, the seasonal work of processing bookings for and sending out semen. As the stud season ends, so they will be getting to registration and inspection applications. So have re-submitted my "lost" papers, and look forward to hearing from them at some point. At least now I now what to expect - thanks Ken!

(And do try phoning - I did at least establish, having spoken to someone in the office, that my papers had been mislaid .... and I've found them helpful in the past on the phone when I have called with enquiries about individual stallions)

As a point of information, when the new DEFRA rules for operating efficently for PIOs come into force (with the new SI dealing with microchipping of foals etc) PIOs based in the UK will have to provide passports within 31 days of receipt of application in order to be seen to be 'operating efficiently'. This turn around will also cover changes of ownership, grading status, overstamps etc and if the return time is expected to be longer than that -- or the horse needs the passport information sooner for internal (UK) transport reasons etc then they will have to issue a time-limited temproary temporary certificate (not a temporary passport) to cover this immediately upon receipt of the application.

Such rules do not apply to foreign-based studbooks however (although they do to fully recognised daughter studbooks, bearing in mind that the application forms for organisations such as BHHS are usually only accepted on or after branding has taken place) so it would not work as chasing mechanism with Zangersheide (until they become a UK PIO of course and then it is irrelevant that the paperwork might be being generated outside the UK), Oldenburg, ZfDP or KWPN but again it might sharpen the competition up a little.

I can't find anything about Rock Flamingo Z on the normal search methods.

Call in the afternoon (not today, it's a holiday in Belgium) and ask to speak to Steven, he'll sort you out in seconds.
