As title - thoughts on this?

For me, MBEs, OBEs are for those who give something back to the community etc - for instance someone in the South East got one for 40years of serving hospital lunches as a volunteer.

Or the 93 yr old lady still serving fish & chips in her local village

Dont think sports personalities as a whole should get them willy nilly. It took Steve Redgrave 20years to get his 5 gold medals - Kelly Holmes got 2 golds in the same week & she was made a dame.

Your turn

I find it very bizarre that someone who is technically a princess can get an MBE. Find that difficult to get me head around.

If the 30 odd people in line for the throne ahead of her die, will she be Queen Zara Phillips MBE?!

I think she is 11th in line to the throne

People have got them for less than what Zara is getting hers for so why shouldn't she and she doesn't have a title nor is she on the civil list.
I think these days they do give them out too easily but that is a long term problem that is hard to reverse. Once presidents are lowered it is hard to higher them again.

I don't see what shes done to deserve one to be honest. What has she done for the community?

A good rider, sure, but it doesn't help anyone but herself [and arguably the country when she wins, but it doesn't directly benefit the community.]

But then you are arguing whether sports people on the whole should get honours and at the moment they do, so it would be unfair if Zara didn't.

Hardly - I think its an entirely different thing if somebody has been competing for their country for years and years, won numerous medals etc.

Zara's only been around 2 minutes, yes she's European and World Champion, but still - I don't think shes done enough to deserve it.

Don't agtee with the honours system at all.Its outmoded now and certainly not for actors/sportspeople etc. They get enough. If you have an honours system it should be for people who do something worthwhile like a couple I met who had adopted and cared for beautifully 2 severely handicapped children.
