Has anyone heard if Zara Phillips is planning on moving yards?

There's a big hall, complete with large yard, on the estate where Wilby lives and it's been for sale for a while, but I have heard through the grapevine (farmers to farmhands to friends to me - a bit like chinese whispers :p) that it's now been sold.

However, noone seems quite sure as to who's bought it - there are two names been thrown around, one of which a business man and the other was Zara Phillips.

Just wondering as to who may our new 'neighbours'!

Of course, it may not have been sold at all, and said house is still advertised on rightmove...

^ lol

Thanks for the link OP - thats a crazy place. I'm sure I'm not the only one who zoomed past all the house pics to get to look at the yard! I think even i would struggle to fill that yard, but then again if i had staff... I think it could be done :)

How many antler's does one (wo)man need?! What a stunning place though.

I saw the Gatcombe yard years ago when my employer was having a lesson with Zara's dad (I assume it's the same yard - Vicky Latta was there then). I remember thinking the stables themselves were amazing but my standards were lower then!! It was a modern L-shaped American barn IIRC, so not a patch on the Osberton yard in terms of size and presence.

Osberton is stunning - spent all my pony club years at camp there and the river is great for the horses - the stable yard is amazing too - but can't really see them moving up here given the Rugby down south and Gatcombe etc. Would be delighted if they did as it would raise the profile of the Osberton BE event and bring a bit of "class" to the area!! The Estate is fabulous - good luck to the new owners whoever they are! But I had also heard that it was a businessman from near Nottingham?? Chinese whispers

Is that the old Foljambe estate by any chance? Echo FB about the library, my paperbacks would look a bit silly in there!

It is, Mr Foljambe lives elsewhere on the estate (and owns the vast majority of the estate, so we're not worried about being kicked out :)) as the hall was just too big a place for him to be in on his own. The guy who he'd sold the hall to died a year or so ago, and I think the daughter is selling for the same reason that Mr F did.

and bring a bit of "class" to the area!!

Oi, are you saying we're not classy round here?:p

I hope not. She's currently a local to my Uncle and he promised to take me down the pub and introduce me next time I'm down...

I guess I shall have to do a bit of digging on the estate then and find out if the rumours are true! They're probably not, but I hope someone horsey buys it (purely so that I can have a back-from-uni-for-the-holidays-job hacking out :p) It's pretty central in the country and not far from major roads (5mins to A1, 20mins to M1) so wouldn't be a bad choice for a serious competitor.

CalllyH, I don't like the hall particularly - firstly because it's way too big (like, you could have squatters and not ever find them!) and also because the whole decor thing is a bit creepy 1800s, stuffed deer and the likes...

Had a look at the details - thought it meant the estate was for sale... glad its not - few relatives have farms on the estate!

I hope she is paying for it herself if she has bought it and not like the rest of her family relying on tax payers money to buy them these fancy houses, so they can ride horses all day while us the people living in the real world , work long hours, have to watch the pennies, and pay out taxes to keep the Royals horse riding all day ... Tally Ho !!

That's a pretty ignorant remark - ZP has no royal title and is not on the Civil List so receives precisely nothing from the government (and therefore the taxpayer) in terms of financial support. In fact as I understand it, only Prince Phillip receives civil list payments, and that's all due to change in 2013 anyway. Plus, the Queen repays any parliamentary annuities from her private funds. So although there is the cost of security etc, and the Queen's costs are met by the taxpayer in exchange for her surrendering all profits from the Crown Estate, the actual number of Royals receiving taxpayers money is limited to the Queen and Prince Phillip!

Seeing as riding horses all day is both her business and her sport I think we can allow her that ;) The rest of what you say is very ill informed.

Here here, nicely put, not to mention the amount of money they bring into the country indirectly with regards to tourisms and merchandise etc.
