My 10yr old EBT has had recurring ear problems for the past year (never had this before with any of her family or her) She was receiving 3 types of AB's, steroids, an antifungal & metacam at one point and I never felt the problem went away really. She then had a liver crisis, caused IMO (maybe wrongly) by the drugs.
I bought some Zymox off Amazon. I know this was a bit mad & a risk, but thought I would give it a go - it had lots of good reviews. It has worked wonders on her ear.

Is it available in the UK? Premumably not -I've not heard of it. Is there anything I need to be cautious of, aside from being rash and buying drugs off the internet!!

Are there any other remedies people have used which help & don't involve pumping the dog full of drugs. I don't have any anti vet agenda, but am concerned with an older dog that the drugs might create more problems than they solve.

Zymox works well as most of their solutions have it has a steroid in them as well as their enzymes......so I am afraid they are by no means drugs free as they claim.

Great drug though and a very useful one to have around. It brings down the inflammation in the ear and a lot of them clean out much easier with it. We used to use it in one practice I was in. Mostly for controlling the chronic ear cases and it is available in the Uk.....but of course long term use of a steroid in the one area will thin the skin so use with care and try to hunt
