yes most definitely does not sound good. I would get the vet to blood test for virus/red cell count. and also heart check, certainly would nnot compete until fully checked.

I had a horse with swollen sheath and legs and it was tick fever. I know this is not the time for ticks but horses can carry tick fever for a very long time also are you feeding barley ?
