Launched, your thoughts please. Sorry long.

This kind of brings things full circle to my earlier post re.pain/behaviour: http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?740496-Have-we-got-it-wrong&highlight=michael+peace

I suppose what I'm saying is - if WE are in pain we tend to avoid acrobatics!

Out of interest, what are people's views on horses exploding when they are in pain? Presumably they are trying to 'free' themselves /run away from the pain? Is that it? Presumably they don't rationalise in the same way as us and associate the pain with movement/weight bearing?

This is such a shock for you and something I experienced myself quite a few years ago now when 'my horse of a lifetime', which I'd had since he was a 2 year old, suddenly exploded very dramatically at 5 while being ridden. It's a very, very long story involving vets and a lot of 'experts' and we...

Good/bad/indifferent experiences of Moorcroft Racehorse Welfare

So why aren't they brought to book? I dunno!

(In fact I got their latest missive only yesterday - which prompted this somewhat belated response).

Good/bad/indifferent experiences of Moorcroft Racehorse Welfare

Yes - some years ago I had the very same experience, but STILL they send me an expensively produced brochure every so often via first class post! WEIRD OR WHAT! (Got to be some kind of tax dodge).

Why would a horse be reluctant to walk downhill?

For me this is this is one of the acid soundness tests. If you're trying a horse to buy and it struggles going down hill, then it's time to walk away.

That Shelley Appleton blog really does say it all, doesn't it.

Following on from 'Have We Got it Wrong' thread

It's a horse someone was telling me about, I haven't seen it in action. (They wanted me to consider taking it on but I walked away because it's the inconsistent ones that worry me the most). If most horses are pain-free (which was the starting point of the thread) then why aren't the difficult...

Following on from 'Have We Got it Wrong' thread

This thread got a big response and I learnt a lot. I'm sure it's run its course (for now), but if anyone has the time or inclination, how would all our musings on the pain/behaviour debate apply to the following case study (not my horse btw): • 5 yr old TB backed before purchase but not lunged...

    Have we got it wrong?

It's not ONLY about trainers though, is it. , I had my first glimpse of 'the light' when I finally got the chance to ride a well-trained horse. It was both an epiphany and a shock when I realised just how long I had been doing it all wrong. Since then, I have come to realise that some horses...

    Have we got it wrong?

And the beat goes on! Thought I'd throw this one into the mix (imagine the strain/pressure put on THAT mare's joints! So maybe the thread now needs to move on to the vagaries of breeding! Hah!): ‘Dermott Lennon’s multiple gold medal-winning ride Liscalgot has died aged 26.Known as...

Haha! And we just keep going back for more!

    Have we got it wrong?

Here’s the thing - whilst you wise old/young sages on here pontificate (and with the best possible intentions, I have no doubt), let’s not forget that the majority of horse owners go more than the extra mile for their precious equines – to make sure that their lives are as good...
