Thanks for the replies :)
She slipped a foal a few years back (we are not sure at what point in the pregnancy it happened) and she apparently "stole" a foal off of another mare. She would let him go back to feed but kept him with her at all other times. The other mare seemed perfectly happy...
I have a retired broodmare, ever since she had her first foal she has produced varying amounts of "milk". It gets worse this time of year and also if she gets a bit too tubby. I keep an eye on her boobies to make sure they are not getting hot/lumpy and sometimes have a check of the fluid to make...
I have had 2 vets (who have both worked in Australia) say that anecdotally slippery elm was as effective as omeprazole in treating ulcers. It would be my first port of call if I suspected my horse was suffering with them.
Sounds to me like a touch of the winter blues :)
Do bear in mind that your mares will be entering their transitional period and hormones will be taking over any sense they may have previously had. They can't help it. Its why we love them :)
Chin up as springs on the way.
The British Grooms Association gets you a good deal on personal accident insurance when you become a member. I also insure for third party and care custody and control (CCC is needed if you are planning on clipping I believe) with SEIB.
Horses with KS seem to cope far better with galloping and jumping single fences than they do with Dressage and SJ. I would imagine down to the engagement needed in the latter.
I charge £2.50 for catch in/rug change (not if wet)/and feet pick (I have to admit to being slightly horrified that any groom would be happy/willing to put a horse in its stable from the field without first picking feet out) full day is £10 (plus travel if necessary)
I am in Herts
It seems that EGB have taken a step back from the "blanket" sponsorship offered by Meydan too.
Its a disgrace and about time the powers that be stood up to this kind of behaviour. Thank goodness there has been a change of leadership within the FEI.
Mine stays in her turn out - she is not clipped. I brush her most days and she is in the field every day. Her rug isn't dirty at all and she has been wearing it for 6 weeks (obviously a bit of mud on the outside!) Normally rugs go greasy at the front because the horses are too warm in them (an...
I am 39 and still a groom. I freelance now but spent a lot of time travelling in Europe and beyond with the job. Sometimes the jobs were a few months some for a few years, I learnt a couple of languages and had a great time. Never owned a property and most probably never will - but then friends...
The comment I hated from LC was along the lines of "I am very busy with my eventers and don't have time for him". EXCUSE ME does she know who He is? IMO this Legend of a racehorse should be somewhere where he is absolute top priority!
Great boots - I wouldn't be without a pair for all the reasons stated above.
Out of curiosity, why do you use a shoe horn to put them on. I have been wearing them for years and have never heard of it before. Never use a boot pull either and have never had a problem.
