Would you get on a horse without seeing it ridden?

I have in the past, twice, and both times been thrown off and severely hurt. So now I would never, I can easily say I have learnt my lesson!!

    best navy velvet hat

I have Charles Owen one. I can't remember which one to be exact but I think it cost just under £100. I've had it for about 5 years now but be warned that the leather strap starts to discolour from sweat etc etc but overall I love it !!

Help to settle during dressage test?

She is a dream at home. So focused and ears are back floppy, always listening. I think it's just the environment and so much to look at it. You all make very good points and I think just experience and patience will go a long way!!

Help to settle during dressage test?

I'm doing an ODE on the 22nd. We did the same event (prelim 7 and 70cm) a few weeks back. She excelled at the jumping phases but the dressage was a bit wobbly. It seemed to all begin in the warm up. She was settled and relaxed at first but all the horses rushing past her seemed to fizz her up...

Part Loaning / Sharing my first horse.

Always be very open and NEVER hesitate to ask the owner any questions you are unsure about; changing rugs, feeding, first aid etc etc it shows them you care. The best advice I can give you (I'm going into the 5th year of sharing current mare) is to treat the horse how you would expect a sharer...

    Mare behaviour in season

My mare is the definition of the word tart when she is in season. Not even kidding! She squirts at the handsome boys in the fields and on the yard! But she is never difficult or nasty even when ridden. She is an ex brood mare so I guess she kinda knows how it all works lol and becomes very...

    Building a top line

I would love to use a Pessoa but I have no idea how to put it on lol I guess I just need to persevere and not give up. I guess I'm one of those people who like instant results! Your tips are great, I can't wait to ride next and try them out !

    Building a top line

I'm so glad someone else is having the same problem!! I usually ride in a gag and she is very hard in the mouth but I'm trying to teach myself to use a snaffle and the rest of my body rather than rely on a stronger bit to do the work !

    Building a top line

For years I have been under the false impression that getting a horse on the bit involved squeezing the reins until they tucked their chin in. I only recently discovered it's all about muscle development. My instructor recommended using a harbridge a few times a week and it's worked. Mare...

    Bit help for dressage!

Dressage isn't my passion but it's what I need to work on to improve my overall score. I think you are right. A different bit won't fix everything. More work in the snaffle and I need to learn to use it too!!

    Bit help for dressage!

She loves her jumping and I think she was anticipating it ! I don't think we are allowed to use a grackle but I used a flash last time but maybe it wasn't tight enough ?

    Bit help for dressage!

First of all I am a sharer, my owners are very flexible and allow me to do what I want etc etc so all in all they trust my opinion and decisions. The horsey and I did our first ode a few weeks back and she was fantastic. My only problem was the dressage. She was excited, strong and very...
