So my mare has produced an absolutely cracking foal, but she’s huge, and the mare is putting everything into her. She’s on mare and foal mix and out at grass, adding a bit of oil into her feeds, but is there anything else I can try. She’s lost her top line and is looking a little ribby.
Obvs...
We had her scanned in the end as deffo not twins. Looks like placentitis but at least we know now, and can give her what we can to improve the situation. Fingers crossed she can hold onto the foal closer to term
thanks
So my mare is due mid May and have recently noticed changes in her bag, looking fuller in the morning like she’s bagging up a bit. It does go down but this seems super early. Do I need to worry about placentitis or some other issue?
definitely not twins. She’s been scanned a couple of...
Thank you - would most breeders accept/understand this? I’m happy to do it this way if so. Then there is a choice. Current foal (her first) is super and can be seen with her of course so in a way that is better than later on when weaned.
I was thinking if I sold her in foal then it’s two for the price of one and the buyer can then put her in foal in the spring to whatever they want, but they also get a foal this season too.
Thanks for the reply
The foal belongs to my current loaner so I would be selling an ‘empty’ broodmare in October. I guess I’m just thinking who would want to pay and keep her over the winter if she isn’t already in foal. As a loaner wouldn’t you either want her in foal, or wait til...
Hi,
I have a lovely mare who this year has been out on loan and had a beautiful foal about 2 weeks ago. I was rather hoping her loan home would keep her on but this is not to be (only due to circumstances, not the mares fault). I am of the mind to sell her, or loan her again, but she...
Thanks both.
She cut herself in the field and got an infection in the joint. She is sound but she needs a bit of time and TLC before she can work again. She also hasn’t had much ‘downtime’ so I think that would do her good too.
I have a pink papered warmblood, shes beautiful, well bred lovely movement but I havent had much success advertising her for private sale or loan.
Just wondering if there are any studs who need mares, for AI or otherwise, or even ET mares?
Thanks
Hi - just wondering if you were looking for a loan horse, where would you look?
I had a brief look at H&H loan ads but there were only 15 in total so maybe not the place to search?
Horsemart? Horse deals? I'm a bit out of touch. Ideally looking for a competitive adult.
If anyone...
