    Bit advice needed pls

My tb mare was like this. Lots of trot poles, trot poles to jumps, trot poles to low grids, etc. We spent the summer doing this and by late fall could canter to a grid cool as could be. Good luck with your guy :)

    Tredstep vs Ariat sizing

I need to go to a slim calf with ariat. I can wear a reg/tall Treadstep and the slim/tall is my summer show boot, bit snugger but still ok. I can't do a reg calf with ariat, baggy as all get out. Defineity need a slim! I've only tried on the ariat. I wanted a dress boot and I liked the fit and...

    To hot to compete?

What about longeing? We have some eventers that are on a program. (And these horses have been out to many places! Not green. Just way too excited about life sometimes :p). Start at home. Longe, go back to cross ties or stall for 10-15 min, go out for proper working ride. Doesn't need to be...

Should I Hog The Cow Cob?

This. Feathers with pigoil or off depending on winter turnout.

Any more ideas - jumping away from home.

Hey :) Do you do grids at home? They are great for making them think and keeping them quick on their feet. Don't need to be very high either! What about free jumping her? I regularly set up a jump chute and with another persons help I send my mare through a grid. Always start low and one or...

who uses lateral work in their schooling sessions

Um, just going to throw it out there, but, circles/bending etc are lateral work. You are developing lateral flexibility in the horse when you ride a straight circle. The inside leg stepping in and under the horse on a proper circle is not different from doing a leg yield. Inside leg to outside...

    1 down ... 200+ to go ...

Clip them while they're still wet from their bath. (No damp half dry, wet!) Hair peels off in ribbons, you are hair free. As long as it's nice and clean wet hair you're good to go! I have done this many many times, we show our dairy cows and I clip my own horse and a few others. But if you...

cuts in the corners of the mouth - any ideas appreciated

A few things: Agree with using something other than Vaseline. My girl gets effol bit butter on the creases of her mouth and 2 sugar cubes before each ride. Nice and slobbery. Try using copper/german silver bits. I use a drop to steady the bit in my mares mouth. I use a baucher cheek piece as...

    Feeling dejected...

I'm going through something similar. I'm so embarrassed by recent failure at being able to jump my mare I don't even want a lesson for my coach to see how bad it is! For me it's two things: Recent loss of confidence in myself as a human being. Second my mare is still new to jumping and I'm so...

Just when you think we are getting somewhere

Hm, all the vibes got me thinking of the horsewear ice vibe boots. Maybe something for him to try? Get Well soon vibes from Canada!

anyone else think this was cheeky?

I agree with cob goblin and Celtic fringe. I'd be bothered too when telling adults, that no, there won't be a horsey visit today, only to have them use the child as an excuse to be rude. If they had just happened by, then, fine. I don't have a problem with visitors or even mail people etc...

If you fall off and your horse stays with you........

In the past my mare has stayed with me. Waited while I groaned up into a standing position. Waited while I went up to her to grab the reins. Waited until my fingers were a hairs breadth away......and then merrily foxtrot oscared her way home!

How to get a horse's head up when on the lunge.

Trot sets are basically interval training. Trot for so many minutes. Walk break for a minute. Then redo for a second 'set'. You can up trot time and/or number of sets as fitness improves. You can also add in a canter set. It's what we use to get our eventers fit. The two I took out yesterday are...

How to get a horse's head up when on the lunge.

If you're looking to help her lose weight maybe start doing trot sets. You can build up how long you go for and you'll be able to work a at keeping her off her forehand.

Pellets bed users - how deep are your beds?

I worked at a barm that did similar to swm1hb, minus the pre soak. Worked great and cost effective. Maybe look into investing in mats? Save on bedding and time in the long term.
