    Gypsy Cob Clipping Help!

I have a heavyweight cob who I hog and I also clip his legs. Despite the hair, it is just like clipping anything else. If he is nervous of the clippers I would start with the more sensitive areas such as legs, face and belly. It will take some time due to the sheer amount of hair to be taken off...

Help finding a grippy stud girth

Can anyone recommend a grippy stud girth? It needs to be brown. I normally use a neoprene type girth as recommended by my saddler as it was difficult to get a saddle to fit and does slip a little bit occasionally. Most the stud girths I can find seem to be leather!

    Fattening food

I have also had a lot of success with calm & condition or copra with micronised linseed. With an older underweight horse I would also be tempted to feed 3/4 smaller meals a day as opposed to two larger feeds.

Where to tie haynet in trailer!

I also have this same problem with the 511 for my 15.1 horse. At the moment I tie it to the front rail and then use a bungee from the partition tie-up to the bottom of the net to pull it closer to him. It works for now but I will be seeking a more permanent solution from my father's DIY skills...

    Grazing management support

Thank you again for your opinions. In response to everybody's comments about providing grazing that is too lush, the point of this business is to offer grazing management services specific to equine use, as opposed to people having to use local farmers and other contractors that do not have...

    Grazing management support

Thank you everybody, these opinions are really valuable in our business planning - please keep them coming! In addition if there are additional things at the yard that people struggle to manage and are interested getting help with e.g. fencing, hedge trimming, haymaking etc that is also really...

    Grazing management support

Hi Everyone, I wanted to run a potential business idea past the people of the forum to get an idea on whether it is a viable idea and whether people think there is a need. A friend who is an agricultural professional recently spoke to me about how in his eyes a lot of equine grazing is...

Unusual coat pattern - hair direction

Nice to hear there are others. I'm clipping him tomorrow so should be interesting!

Unusual coat pattern - hair direction

My new horse seems to have an unusual coat pattern in terms of hair direction. It is a bit like giant whirls all over his body. I haven't seen anything like this before and just wondered if anyone else has? And if there is any reason for it or it is just an odd variation?

    Extra extra full boots

Where do people buy extra large boots for their chunky horses. None of the extra full boots I pick up in my local tack shops are big enough for my horse. They won't even do up!! Has anyone got any recommendations of brands that do extra large gear?

    Stallion recommendations - ID mare

Thanks! You are spot on with the hocks. Definitely something I will be looking at improving. I think I am most likely going to go with something lighter as opposed to a full draft. TB-wise I like the suggestion of Sula Blue and I also like the look of One More Tiger. Whilst not sure on...

    Stallion recommendations - ID mare

Thank you all for your suggestions. There is a lot to think about. I will post some photos of my mare shortly, although I'm not sure I have got any of her standing straight they will give you an idea of her type. I am quite tempted to cross her with a bit of 'blood', probably a TB. She is the...

    Stallion recommendations - ID mare

I am looking to put my mare in foal next year and want to be prepared on stallion choice (so that I can make plans to see the stallions/offspring). My mare is pure ID, grey, 17hh, with King of Diamonds and Skippy lines. She has decent bone, relatively narrow/slightly sporty type (which I like)...

    Cost of having joints medicated

My horse has hock arthritis and the vet has recommended that her hocks are medicated. They have quoted £475 plus sedation to have both hocks injected at my yard (steroids, no Tildren). This sounds like quite a lot to me and I was expecting around the £250 mark. What does everyone else pay for...
