    navicular syndrome and sacroiliac disease

After 3 years of MANY investigations and red herring, my 10 year old highland mare has been diagnosed with ddft and collateral ligament damage plus sacroiliac disease. The vet believes the sacroiliac is secondary to the forelimb lameness although she was an exceptional daft youngster and had...

Does he need hoof boots for concrete?

Bare feet need conditioning! Use boots if he is very footy but otherwise he needs to walk on different surfaces to stimulate the frog and sole and allow the hoof to respond and strengthen - its a bit like weight training , unless you start lifting heavier weights you don't build bigger muscles...

Does my mare have a grass allergy?

my mare gets swollen lymph glands if the grass is flushing, for me it is a warning sign, the lymph system is there as a defence and swelling means it is responding. My research lead to looking at grass tetany in cattle and the role of salt in the diet and i find if she has access to loose salt...

    laminitis/bone spavin

i have tried metformin but she tested negative for ems and ppid and it didnt seem to do anything, i think the grass is the main problem, she has been muzzled 24/7 the last few days and is moving better but the yo has decreed no more grass livery so she has to be stabled over winter and we will...

    laminitis/bone spavin

just to add her lameness is suspiciously prolonged and have thought about further investigations but if it turns out to be the bone spavin alone i will be liable for the bill. At present in trot she is extremely short on the right hind on a circle , straight line, what ever surface, and hikes...

    laminitis/bone spavin

my 9 year old highland has had low grade laminitis on and off over past 5 years, i manage it with difficulty mainly because of ex-dairy grass like rocket fuel and because she also has bone spavin, which is minimal on xray but even after 2 tildren treatments remains lame at trot which means the...

    locking hindleg

i agree with the exercise approach, just be sure there isn't anything else going on in the stifle joint. i had a mare with this problem and she had a small bone spur which had to be removed surgically, after which she was absolutely fine, and the hill work etc finished the job.

    laminitis headache

Have decided after following up all the posts here to take her off thunderbrook, get blood test done, test the hay, and start her on very simple diet, soaked hay basic supplements salt/vit e/magnesium seem the most vital. She had half an hour muzzled grazing as she looked so fed up in the mud...

    laminitis headache

Hi thanks for your post, you are not the first person to say thunderbrook not good for lami/ems, do you know why? I was very happy with it as she gets so little nutrition i felt it covered her, but of course it could be keeping her close to tipping point. the nutritionist made alot of sense and...
