I know the feeling. i used to ride a beaut ex-racehorse that wasn't mine, but we just got along so well (could never believe he threw people off until i saw it). it's always tricky letting go...but hey.
My personal exprience is that connemaras make your life difficult just because. My one,
my friend's Smokey, my sister's old pony Shamrock,
Blue and Magic at the stables I used to ride at...everything.
They act like they've never seen a particular filler when
they've jumped it eight times ...
Agreed - it's not fair that bites by big dogs get such coverage Also, altho i think
that this dog's owner should have been in control. However, the dog chased the horse,
it didn't actually attack - the horse died because it ran away.
I don't really agree with Twinkling_Mrs_Claus
"I hate the stigmata that comes with staffys , 9/10 out they get mistaken for a pitbull terrier.
Its not staffys that are attacking kids , Its pitbulls . "
Sorry, but that is completely hypocritical. You cannot say...
I'd agree cobs are not always plods. some of them are slow, quiet and easy 9 timesout of 10, then suddenly they are quite difficult. this is particularly scary because you don't expect it. i rode one RDA cob mare that was always, always, always perfect and she got my XC confidence back...so that...
I own a chunky connemara (ok, not quite a cob, but nearly) that does that when I try to lead him, minus the kicking - he just rears. pressure halters have eased the prob a little bit.
If you can ride with 2 reins, use a 3-ring gag or a pelham. Pelhams are really not cruel if you use both reins.
That way, you can ride him on a gentle snaffle with no leverage, then pick up the contact on the bottom rein when you can't control him.
If you can't do 2 reins, maybe learn...
Thanks, that clears it up. i know it's not important, but i get so annoyed when i can't find something out.
So it's a thoroughbred or mostly thoroughbred 14.2hh or under, yes?
Sorry if this is stupid or irrelevant, but what the heck is a "Blood Pony"?
I've heard the term everywhere, and I googled it, but I couldn't get an answer, apart from a strange band called My Little Blood Pony.
Can someone tell me, I'm really curious!
This will sound boring or unhelpful, but don't go horse-shopping for that elusive horse. I did that - it was a mistake!
Advise your daughter and her daughter to go to riding schools, make friends with people with horses, go on riding holidays within the country etc. Find any way to meet new...
So glad you found a horse that you click with. I think that letting the right horse find you was a great plan. I didn't do that and regretted it.
I bought a connemara - I can say that every single one I have ever met is very motivated by food, cheeky, stubborn and very clever. Mine is very...
