Hello, im sorry if this has been done a million times before!
This winter my pony had a bout of laminitis resulting in 9degrees rotation in both fore feet. I dont think he has had it previously. cushings test was negative.
He is currently off the grass being fed soaked hay and a small amount...
hi, my pony has laminitis with 9degrees rotation of pedal bone in both fore legs.
he has had it for about 2.5 weeks, vet did xrays yesterday, is on box rest on deep straw bed as we dont have shavings.
our farrier peter gledhill is coming next week to do some specific trimming/shoeing based on...
sorry probably should have explained, my mum was there with the vet and she explained it to me, i just wanted some more information about the rotation as she wasnt to sure :)
just had xrays done for pony who has laminitis. never had a lamanitic before.
vet invoice says "both front limbs rotation of pedal bone 9 degrees above horizontal" and " (unreadable word...possibly 'gas'??) shadow in white line"
is this serious? he is going to have his feet trimmed and shod...
also...do we need to call a farrier? never experienced laminitis before. shod on front feet. i dont think he'd be able to be re-shod or trimmed right now as it would mean weight bearing on his bad leg?
thanks for replies. we only have one stable which makes it very tricky as we cant bring anyone in with him! i think he was sweating because he was fretting, he seems to be walking better and isnt always sweaty.
mum says no about shavings im afraid :( hes going to have to stay with straw. would...
my pony has suspected laminitis and has been on box rest for 3 days. he usually lives out 24/7 in a herd so is very stressed being shut in.
he paces abit, not continually but on and off. and we came down yesterday and he was very sweaty! he currently has a straw bed with soaked hay as we dont...
sorry if this has been done a million times before.
the vet has just been and he was pretty sure my pony has laminitis. he has never been lame with us before and I've never had a horse with laminitis.
he said it could be due to cushings or metabolic something or other...if he has cushings does...
can you re-use the water? it is soaked in a bin...can I take one haynet out and put another in to soak? or do I need to tip the water out and get fresh?xx
i dont think my mum wil call the vet as we cant really afford it...especially just after christmas :(
at the moment he has haylage but can try to get some hay?
p.s the mare isnt our pony, so up to her owners :(
i hope its not laminitis! especially since ive started the gelding on a...
dont have a stable, is it ok to turn him out in the sandschool with hay for a few days until we find out whats wrong? its quite hard sand because of the rain?
what can we do whilst waiting for them to come out?
are they ok in the fields? or should i keep him in the sandschool with hay...slightly drier than fields?x
it could be several days before either farrier or vet can come out :(
two of our ponies have gone lame within 2 days of each other...both on near fore (i think)
the mare went lame first, and she is getting very stiff.
now the gelding is lame although not as bad.
they live out 24/7 and the fields are wet/muddy. they are shod on the front.
in both cases there is...
