just had xrays done for pony who has laminitis. never had a lamanitic before.
vet invoice says "both front limbs rotation of pedal bone 9 degrees above horizontal" and " (unreadable word...possibly 'gas'??) shadow in white line"

is this serious? he is going to have his feet trimmed and shod to try and correct it. is this going to affect the horses life?

I think your best bet would be to phone your vet and speak to them. They should explain everything to you rather than just sending an invoice...

I would expect to be made fully aware of the vets findings before the horse is seen by the farrier.

sorry probably should have explained, my mum was there with the vet and she explained it to me, i just wanted some more information about the rotation as she wasnt to sure :)

Even more reason to phone your vet if you weren't there. ;) Sometimes I find it hard enough to relay information the vet has given me directly!

Good luck, hope your pony is on the road to recovery soon. (I have no experience with lami or rotation so cant help you other than suggest speaking to your vet AND farrier in detail I'm afraid)

Rotation means the pedal bone is not attached to the hoof wall by 9 degrees in your horses case. However I don't know what "above the horizontal" means. The gas reference is probably gas pocket which is a term vets use when there is a gap inside the hoof on X Ray ie. no tissue. It is fairly often seen along with rotation.

Really the wall has become disconnected due to lamina inflammation.

ps.Here are various X Rays showing pedal bone 'rotation'. The hoof wall should be at the same angle as the bone and close to it.
