its not as bad as it looks falling off so dont worry about that.
as for corners just relax and dont tense up maybe put a cone in a corner and do a few small circles around it to find your balance.

aww glad your building up your confidence and it sounds like your friend is doing a great job too.
its always daunting getting on a new horse for anyone, but after a few times you build a bond/relationship and it just gets easier and easier.
