gunnergundog, thanks for your comment but my dog has been trained to poo or defecate as you put it at home on command. She doesn't actually do it when we're out but if she were to it wouldn't be a problem because the forest I ride in has official signs asking owners to flick any poo on the path...
Thanks for all your helpful advice but I do think I've been 'got at' a bit. It's not as if I've actually put my horse and dog in this situation yet, I was just asking about it! Its almost as if some of you haven't read my answer - for those that may have missed it I have copied it below.
That's...
Pinkvboots, that's a brilliant idea. Can you tell me how you taught your dog? My dog is a GSD and doesn't go far away from me, only a couple of paces then she turns her head to check I'm still there! Even so I will need to make sure I can command an instant down incase a rabbit or deer crosses...
That's a good tip thanks to start leading from a bike and it will be good exercise for me too! I can make sure my commands and reactions from my dog are all solid before transferring it to when I'm riding but without a lead.
Thanks for your answers.
Yes of course, I think that's the answer! She is almost at the point where I could trust her to just come with me off the lead. I think if I work a bit more on her 'down' so I can command her whenever I need her to stay still it would be much safer than having her on a lead next to my horse. She...
Hi, can anyone tell me how they lead their dog for exercise while they're riding? It seems like it would be great exercise for an energetic dog! My horse is very good with dogs and wouldn't kick but I'm just wondering how to go about it or if it's not a good idea. I'm thinking a harness on my...
It sounds like you're really trying everything to get to the bottom of it. It muse be miserable for your horse to be suffering so much.
My pony has sweet itch and I've been giving him Cavalesse everyday on a small piece of bread and it's amazing how it's helped his sweet itch. Ideally you...
HappyHooves, thanks for your reply. I should just add that I meant to say to use food grade for animals as opposed to swimming pool stuff which is dangerous to animals and humans - I think the animal DE is foodgrade as well. Also, I read that if the DE is white it's not such good quality so if...
Hi, I have had a pony with recurrent pinworm for well over 2 years. He's been under the vet all this time and I've spent over £500 on vet's bills!
His latest wormer came from America as it is different to the wormers licensed in the UK and apparently pinworm in this country is becoming...
Hi, I think it's normally about a month but there was a fire in the factory in Wales so it delayed it it for about another 6 frustrating weeks!
I've got the LH front unload 511 and I have no regrets getting a LH rather than a RH unload. There's definitely more room for the bigger horse which...
Hello again,
I'm not sure if I got missed as I requested a pm of both types of pellets and still haven't received it! Im very keen to know because I have just moved into a beautiful part of Sussex and have 6 acres so am going to keep my horses at home at last after many years of livery! It's...
Thank you again for all your comments - I have ordered a LH unload IW trailer today and am so excited!! I am confident it was the right decision to order a LH unload. It's unusual to have the choice!!
Thank you all for your advice. I have decided to order a LH unload trailer as it makes sense because of travelling the bigger horse on the right amongst other reasons!
